Can anyone direct me to a thread that might give me information on Lego Land? I have to find a place to stay for 3 nights with two adults and 5 children.

[HI!
You didn't mention when you'll be traveling and maybe someone can be more specific, but if you go to any travbel site, like Expedia, and search in Carlsbad, CA you'll get a lot of options. Most of the hotel results say how far they are from Legoland.

Good Luck!!
Lisa

We stayed at the Hilton San Diego Del Mar...it's not in Carlsbad, right outside of it...very convenient to get on highway and swing down to San Diego or up to Legoland. We found it to be a very nice hotel and we got it for a GREAT price on Hotwire during the summer months.

I was so happy to see somebody responded! Thank you! I guess I should have mentioned that I will be traveling August 5-8th, 2005. It is coming up pretty quick, and here is really the big problem. I need two rooms, and have never used Hotwire, expedia, etc. and do not know how to book two rooms. I don't even know if you can book two rooms.
I am traveling with my husband, and 5 kids ages 6-15. Of course connecting rooms would be ideal and I just figured I couldn't get any online. I can't believe how expensive the hotels are in Carlsbad! I would not mind driving a little bit if it would save me money. We are also going to Six Flaggs Hurricane Harbor in Valencia so some advice on where to stay there or in Santa Clarita would be great too.
Right now, near Lego Land, I have a reservation at the Marriott Fairfield for 141.00 a night before taxes. Thanks again to those who responded!!!! I am still looking for a better deal. :upsidedow

Hollyster, I am very familiar with Carlsbad and have sent you a pm.

Check vbro.com for vacation beach houses in the Carlsbad, Del Mar, and Encinitas area. Most of them have a one week minimum, but you might find a place that has had a cancelation and is willing to rent for a three night stay.

Also, there are a ton of timeshares up and down that area and if you could find a two bedroom, you might be able to get away with one room. Many of the timeshare places rent out the units if they have extras. I'd try Wavecrest in Del Mar; Carlsbad Inn, Carlsbad Seapointe, and Tamarack Beach Resort in Carlsbad, and the Blue Whale in Oceanside.

Your best option would be the pacific grand palisades, which is just outside the gates of Legoland. They have 3 bedroom units there, although August might be a stretch. Give them a call and see if they have any nightly rentals.

I think your visit coincides with racing season at the horse racing track in Del Mar, which is why you're seeing very high prices on everything between La Jolla and Oceanside.

That would explain alot! Most of the hotels in the area are not available and I couldn't figure out whey so many were sold out. Thanks!

That was me under Tallmidget girls screenname. I am on a different computer and forgot to log my daughter off first before replying. Thanks to all helping me out!

If it IS racing season, ignore the Hilton Del Mar...it is next to the entrance to the track so will be highly booked then. We got "off" racing season during last July and booked two rooms through Hotwire at $60/room.
Here's my secret for booking hotels on Hotwire...first ask it to quote you a package w/air and hotel and you will get choices of which hotels for your package (names, info, stars, location)...note which hotels you like and their location and star amount, then go back and do your search for hotel only (won't tell you names, just location and stars)...you will know the exact hotel from looking at the packages before and can book w/confidence. We've ALWAYS gotten the exact hotel we thought it would end up being using this method.

We're planning to go to SD the same week and are having a HECK of a time finding a hotel that has availability for all our nights stay. I read somewhere (biddingfortravel I think) that there is a big music conference and soccer stuff going on in SD in early August. I don't know. We went this same time last year AND the year before and both times easily found (great deals!) for a hotel (Hyatt Regency LaJolla).

As for Santa Clarita, we live in Valencia :) I would probably choose to stay at the Hyatt if it's in your budget. It's across the street from the mall, movie theater, and tons of different restaurants. It's basically the 'hub' of Santa Clarita with the majority of shopping, eating, everything. You could literally walk to 10-20 different sit down restaurants and just as many counter service or fast food places. It's a really nice location and literally down the street from MM. Through priceline you can usually get it for $75ish. If that wasn't an option I'd try the hotels in Stevenson Ranch. That would be the marriot hotels (courtyard/residence inn), comfort inn and extended stay. They're nice, but further away (maybe 2-3 miles) and not as convenient a location (plenty of shopping/food in the general area...but you'd want to drive to most sit downs and it's not as 'pretty'). There are a few hotels right outside Magic Mountain but unless you're literally just planning to sleep at the hotel I would go with one of the other options. There are prefectly nice/new hotels, but it's an isolated area so you'll need to dive to anything besides what's right in that area (hotels, Marie Calendar, Wendys, Hamburger Hamlet, Dennys, Red Lobster, Gas station).

Wow! More great advice! I really appreciate your time, you guys! Thanks again! ::yes::

:flower: Hey, I booked the Hyatt! Thanks for the tip! I got a pretty good rate on two rooms under the Family Plan, with the AAA discount and breakfast included on top of that!
Now I am off to work on the Carlsbad part of the trip. In light of all the things going on in San Diego while I am there, I wonder if I should just stick with the Fairmont or the Holiday Inn? I will go try that Hotwire trick too!

You might want to check out the Fairfield Inn in Carlsbad. We stayed there this past June for five nights. It's about 2 miles from LegoLand on the west side of I-5 and about a 1/2 mile from the ocean.
It's a nice place with a friendly and helpful staff. Good continental breakfast too with possibly the hardest working breakfast room worker I've ever seen. She kept everything stocked and clean and it got pretty darn busy the days we were there.
The hotel's also about a 1/2 mile from the Coaster station if you'd like to take that down to San Diego some day.

Thanks Everyone!!!
I decided we are staying one night at the Fairfield Inn, doing Lego Land half a day on the 5th, and then on the 6th until they are tired. We then will drive back to the Hyatt Valencia and check in for two nights. I did some figuring with the rates and the breakfasts and all and this seems to work well for us. Thank you all! You made my jumbled thoughts into an actualy plan of attack!
If anyone has anything they would like to share about Lego Land or Hurricane Harbor, that would be appreciated too! I have read there is a new Knights Feast at Legoland, and have seen Hurricane Harbor on the Travel Channel. Kind of an odd trip, but we go to Disneyland quite a bit, and have not been to Lego Land in about 5 years. :wave2:
