Where to stay near Cedar Point in Ohio?

We stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky. I got a pretty good deal. (I think about $150 a night) Kids liked the water park. The best part was that there was a Meijer's store right next door so I drove over there every morning to get breakfast items. Nice clean and spacious rooms.

We have stayed at a few close to the park. The Sandusky Inn and Suites which is extremely close was pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but no complaints. The breakfast was not much, but a good price for a decent hotel.

I was close to booking two nights at Great Wolf Lodge but after looking into it, I might not.

Two nights of lodging with the promo comes out to $111.00 per night. $111.00 per night times two is $222.00 total. No problem.

They then charge over 11% hotel tax on top of that. Again, no problem. It's close to Cedar Point, I understand.

On top of that they have a $9.99 per night fee that when I called up and asked why, they said it covers the cost of coffee and newspaper each night. What a joke!!! The lady I talked to said it used to be $15.00 a night and they just dropped it to $10.00. Lucky me!!

I really don't think most people understand how much they get gouged on taxes and fees.

I am from the Sandusky area and have worked at both Hotel Breakers and Sawmill Creek. Kalahari is now by far the best resort in the area. Check around online and you should be able to find some discount codes for Sunday-Thursday night stays. Hotel Breakers and Sandcastle Suites have become way overpriced and the quality has diminished, although I understand Sandcastle was recently remodeled. The cottages at Lighthouse Point are also a great option. Sawmill Creek is very nice but has become more a convention facility recently. A well-kept secret is the new and inexpensive Motel 6 on Rye Beach Rd. in Huron, just a few minutes to the park.

It's been 6 years but when we went we stayed at Castaway Bay. We LOVED the hotel. I remember it being fairly pricey but it was SO hot in August the indoor water park was the best thing ever!

We live about an hour or so away from Cedar Point. We have stayed at Castaway Bay 3 times now. We will be going for a couple of nights for Spring Break this year. I have young kids, so it works great for us- rooms with bunk beds, and the water park isn't THAT big. Castaway Bay is very safe, and I feel that the lifeguards do a great job patrolling their areas. Remember with the price of your room it also includes wrist bands for the water park. So, even though it is $200-$300 a night, it does include your daily entertainment. I really wish they'd put in more restaurants. There's only really a Fridays'- not too much else. You have to remember that around Sandusky they really only have a tourist season in the summer, so they can't afford to be Disney. I know these places are indoor waterparks, but Cedar Point is the real draw to the area as a whole.

We stayed at the Breakers Express. It's a little bit of a drive because it's not on the land where the park is (unlike the Breakers). But it was cheap and clean and really only a 5 minute drive away. And we DID get free parking and a discount on our park tickets AND we got to go in the park an hour early, and all the major coasters were running during that hour. The park was nearly empty--unlike WDW, not many people took advantage of the extra hour!

The campgrounds are REALLY nice, if you camp at all. And they are right outside the gate. You can walk from your campsite to the park entrance in 5 minutes or less. My aunt stayed at the campground and we hung out there mid-day when the sun got too hot. I was really impressed with it.
