Where to Stay in San Diego?

We're going to the San Diego area for a week over Thanksgiving. Taking our 3 children, who will be ages 9, 7, and 1.

I'd love any suggestions on where to stay! We'd probably be willing to pay $200/night max (but can take advantage of AAA, Entertainment, or government discounts to get us there). That said, I'm always reluctant to pay a lot of money for a swanky hotel that we're never in. I guess we'd prefer not to pay on the higher end unless the place itself is a destination that the kids will enjoy.

We plan on going to Seaworld, Legoland, the Zoo, and the Wild Animal Park while we're there, so we don't want to stay in L.A. or anything And no, we won't be going by DL this trip

I really appreciate any suggestions you might have. I'm clueless when travelling outside of Disney

If you'll have a car, I highly reccomend the Embassy Suites in La Jolla. The downtown one is nice, but way more expensive. It may be closer to all of the atrractions though.

La Jolla is about a 15 min. (give or take) drive to sea world. We didn't go to the zoo or animal park, ao I'm not sure how much farther it would be. However, it puts you in a nice area, close to the nice beaches. It's also right across a huge mall with a ton of dining options.

In either case, you get a huge room, with lots of sleeping space, free hot breakfast and a cocktail hour with snacks and fun drinks for both kids and adults included.

I know I sound like I work for them, but have just enjoyed stays there a few times

We got a good rate at the Marriott Resort and Marina. They had a wonderful pool area, considering it was in the city. It reminded me of the Poly. The location is great. Easy walk to downtown and the gas lamp district, convenient valet parking and the room was fine. We splurged for two nights before we got there by staying at the Hotel Del Coronado. That was wonderful too.
