We are coming from the east coast and want to stay 7 or 8 nights. DH does not want to switch hotels. Two of the days we would be doing other things, the rest at DL. Also we need a suite. I was leaning toward either Desert Inn suites or Residence Inn maingate. I know DI would be closer, but RI looks nicer. If you have 4 or 5 park days is it still a good idea to be really close? We would be going beg. of August.

I've never stayed at the Residence Inn Maingate, but have at the one south on Harbor--the Resort Area one. For long stays, it is exceptionally good--tons of room, free breakfast, manager's reception, etc. The Maingate is an older version, but should be very roomy. We usually get the 2-bedroom, and when I took teenagers it was perfect--they had their own bedroom with bunks and their own bath. My wife and I also had our own bedroom and bath, so everyone could take their time. Residence Inn is a Marriott property, and they keep their hotels in top shape. I think they all use the ART shuttle now, so it shouldn't be a long wait at any time to get back to your hotel.
Enjoy!

Only 11 more days to Disneyland, and 5 days until we are DVC owners at Saratoga Springs!

I stayed at that Residence in the last time we went to DL. It's awesome, you get a free hot breakfast and four days a week their is a hot snack in the late afternoon. They also do movie night on Mondays (usually a Disney movie). I'd stay their again.

Never stayed at the RI but we have stayed at Anaheim Desert Inn 7 times. Nothing fancy but it does meet ones basic needs. We have always stayed in their largest suite which is basically 2 rooms and 2 baths. Rates are reasonable for the space you get. Rooms have fridges and microwaves which is a plus to us. Rooms have always been clean and comfortable. One of the best reasons for staying, combined with the above mentioned, is that it is such a short walk to the park which makes it so easy to go back to the room for a midday break, especially when you have multiple days.

A plus for the Residence Inn Maingate is the full kitchen, especially if you are staying there for a week. It comes with dishes, silver and pots and pans, too.

We've stayed at the Residence Inn-Maingate a couple times. We like to stay at this hotel for the longer trips because of the kitchen and the free breakfasts each morning. Plus the BBQ area great. You get a complete, hot breakfast - not just rolls and juice. The staff has always been nice. The rooms are ok. I've read in other posts of people have problems, but we've never experienced it. We are also checking into another Residence Inn a little further away. The cost is a little less and it's a newer hotel.

As for transportation to the park, we used the bus service that comes to the hotel, which costs $3 a day and was very convenient. Good luck with your choices, because there are so many.

We have stayed at RI Maingate numerous times and love it. Hot breakfast, managers special in the weekday evening, free grocery shopping, nice pool and the nice penthoude suite. Easy walk, ART if you do not.

I was looking at rates at RI for early Aug. and I am getting $289 for the kids suite. Are there better deals closer to the date. I don't want to spend more than $200 or we are staying at HOJOs.

We paid $189/night weekend and $139/night weekday for the penthouse suite, mid August 11-19. AAA and and Marriott VIP rates. We made the ressie's on line.
