Where to Start?

I'm not sure where to start on this list. I am new to the DIS Boards (just joined this week to soak up info for our upcoming Disney cruise). I am very familary with the WISH list and several of its members- Jeff Oh, Wendy S., to name a few. I'm also a member of the Disney Deads group.

My name is Colleen, I live in Cincinnati, and I'm a walker- not quite a race walker, but a very fast fitness walker (ranked 13th in the city). Hubby and I have been doing the races at Disney since 1999. Since that time, I've done the Disney full marathon 4 times, the half 6 times, Goofy this past year, both Princesses, and 2 DL 1/2s. In addition, I do a ton of 5ks and 10ks locally and have done several other full and half marathons over the years. Likewise, I've trained a few people for the half and full marathons at Disney. Thus, I'm not a novice, but not an expert- but I would say that I'm very experienced and knowledgable about walking in races.

I am looking forward to getting to know many of you...if everyone is as nice and personable as Jeff and Wendy then I know that I've found a great group!

So, now that I've introduced myself, where do I go from here? The threads all seem a bit overwhelming, leaving a girl to wonder where to start.

:welcome:

First off it is always good to have another Ohioan on the boards.

I would suggest starting on the monthly thread (which will be changing to an April thread tomorrow). In reality the thing to do is go through the threads and if you see a topic you would like to comment on or have an opinion on chime in.

The WISH boards are frequented by a smaller subset of the DIS then many of that other boards so it doesn't take 1,000 posts before anyone recognizes you (unlike the theme park or restaurant boards).

Welcome!!! Another Cinicinnati walker here!! I haven't done near the number of events that you have done, however. Did you do the Heart mini over the weekend?

I am fairly new here myself. I was assigned to a smaller chat group back in Jan or Feb. I read there and whatever else catches my eye. Just start posting where you are comfortable and you should find a place to call home. Also, from your post you will probably be noticed and asked if you want to join a smaller chat group.

BTW This will be the 4th year I have walked with my state senator from Cincinnati to Columbus. Dates this year are 4/23-4/26. People walk an hour, an afternoon, a day... I can give you some more info if you are interested.

Hi Colleen....Welcome. If you want to fall in with a smaller group (~20) of randomly assigned WISH'ers, you can join one of the "small teams" (Yeah, we need a name for them!). Check out this thread for some info, and if you want to join one, then you can post your request.

Christine:

Didn't do the Heart Mini this past weekend. My youngest son dives and we were in Akron for a meet over the weekend. The walk with the sentor sounds like fun but we will just be getting back from Boston (hubby is running the Boston Marathon) so I will need to work that weekend to get caught up.

BTW, what part of town do you live in? I'm always looking for new walking buddies. I'm in College Hill.

See that... I knew Maura would find you!

I live in North Avondale. I like to walk at Spring Grove Cemetery and at Lunken.

I do most of my distance training at the Loveland Bike trail- I meet my sister who lives on the east side of town so it's about equidistance for both of us. My husband likes to run at Spring Grove, but other than some 5ks there, I've never walked there. As my training for the Flying Pig continues to gear up, I'm thinking about going there to do some hill work to get ready for that climb up into Eden Park.

Hi Colleen! Great to have you with us here on WISH.

I'm an Ohio-an from the North Coast. I've a friend not too far from Cinci whom I visit a couple times a year. Love the bike hike trail down that-away.

Now I can vouch for Wendy and the rest of the WISH members, but that guy Jeff, he's kinda wacky.:lmao:

My Real name is Matt, I'm on the Dead's list :). I was the one that epic race report about the marathon this year.

I am also in the Cincinnati area (Fairfield), and this half-marathon at the Pig will by my first time climbing up to Eden Park. I suspect it will be a teeeeeeeeeny bit harder than the little incline by the Contemporary!

Colleen, you already made a huge mistake. Associating yourself with Wendy and Jeff. Big mistake. You will be forever linked to those 2.

For what it is worth, the rest of us are normal. Well sort of.

And for the rest of you Colleen is a very fast walker. Just about every weekend her and Tom are winning either trophies or medals.

enjoy the WISH boards.

Yes, I would have to agree with you 100% that Jeff guy is really strange. I usually try to act like I don't recongize him when I run into him at Disney.:dance3:

Yes, I think I would have to agree. The hill by the Contemporary is steep but not too big, but Eden Park is a steep and long. I'm not particularly looking forward to it either. The good thing, however, is that it is early in the race.

Do I know you?:rotfl2:

Hey also from Cincy well Northern Kentucky and i was fortunate enough to land the Eden Park lag #2 this past weekend and it was oh so much fun running up the hill in the pouring down rain. So far both races this year have been either really cold (Disney marathon) or raining(Flying Pig). Hopefully the Marathon won't be cold this coming year. I do all my training at Lunken and around Newport, Bellevue area

Welcome to the WiSH team, Colleen!

If Ohio ever collapses into a giant sinkhole, it'll be from the weight of all of Colleen's and her DH's hardware! Though they are a lot faster than me :worship: (Who isn't? :)), they are very generous with training advice and lots of news about races in their area. (In fact, I hope to try the Marshall U Half this year based on their recommendation. And I also hope to try Memphis, which they did a while back.) They have even been attentive hosts when I ventured up to Cincy to walk the Flying Pig Marathon.

Oh, and she really is a stamping goddess. I'm the very lucky recipient of some of her handmade cards.

I actually got to know Jeff on the WiSH boards, and despite the fact he'll never let me forget he lives in paradise (lucky rascal), his sense of humor makes him a keeper! :thumbsup2

But then I even like Duane, so how much weight does a recommendation from me carry?
