I need some help from moms of preteens. I have no idea where to shop for clothes for DD12 for the school year. When I was a teen our mall had more stores than we had money. A parent didn't even need to know the current trend because there were enough stores to help you out. Well I have since moved away and our mall is very much lacking in the clothing dept (not even Gap). I think I will have to order online. I would like to keep the budget somewhat in check since I have to get 3 kids ready for back to school but DD is getting too old for what we have here.
TIA

Aeropastle is great, in clothes and good prices. Gap is good too. Do you have an outlet center within a couple hours drive, you could make a day trip put of it and get alot of clothes for the upcoming year.

Thanks. I will those out. We don't have an outlet center anywhere near us. This is so frustrating. I used to live 75 miles from L.A. and if we didn't have what I wanted (rare) we would go down to LA for a shopping trip.

i buy DD11's clothes at old navy, jcpenney (they have some really cute stuff), gap, aeropostale and amazingly enough, i get the best jeans at the local thrift store. name brand stuff-old navy, gap, levi's and limited too (which we don't have around here). the old navy and gap jeans seem to fit best. ugh, i dread shopping for her clothes-it seems she's outgrown all of her shorts and jeans.

OHHH, how about a shoe recommendation? My DD goes to private school and wears uniforms so we dont get many "reg" clothes but like to have cute shoes, lol. Last year she picked like 3 pair of Rocket Dogs, :lmao:

What do your DD 12/13 like for shoes?:confused3

I whole heartedly recommend Old navy - their prices are reasonable and you can get some really nice things. I also like that their clothes fore girls both preteen and younger are semi-modest. Not that I'm a prude, but I don't necessarily think that it's appropriate for an 11 year old to be wearing bootie shorts to 5th grade, KWIM?

DD10 and her classmates (10-12 year olds) wear American Eagle, Aeropostale, Old Navy, Justice, Abercrombie and Gap mostly. I also buy clothes from Macy's, sometimes they have DKNY jeans on sale or other brand name tops.

My dd is going on 12. She is small for her age. So she still shops in Justice- mostly just the solids- the skirts and the tanks.
She like Aeropastale and a little American Eagle.
But she really really likes Boden
http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Girls-Clothing.html#nav

Mostly because not everyone is wearing it. She likes to be individual.

Shoes she loved Marc Ecko sneakers. :confused3They were a royal pain to find too.
And of course still Uggs- uggs flip flops are what she is wearing now. Along with her Vera Bradley flip flops.

I know it is regional so you may want to get your DD online to see what she likes. Some of the brands mentioned here my DD would never wear. I can't even get her in aeropostal or american eagle never mind old navy.

I say let her check things out for herself. My DD 12 going into Jr High likes Hollister, VS Pink, Tillys, Pac sum and a local store called Zumes as well as some upscale places at the Irvine Spectrum. The clothes all last a long time and she has all but stopped growing so I spend alot less overall.

Monique as I was reading your list I was thinking "they must be in California!"

I should have said we are east coast. And you are right. Different regions are into different brands.
My daughter is just getting into hollister. And my 15 year old sun is living in Pac Sun stuff this summer. So we are bridging the coasts:rotfl2:

I think some of it depends on where you live. My DD likes abercrombie, American eagle, hollister, pac sun and zumes (we even have one in central Indiana), and loves forever 21 for jewelry. Justice in a big NO NO for the middle school crowd around here and they only wear Gap and Old Navy for uniforms.

My dd will be 9 in July, but she still tries to keep up with the older girls in styles...I normally get all of her clothes from either JCPenney's or Kohls...She wants all the Justice, Hollister etc. because her friends have it, but for the money I can get her twice as much from the other stores and the clothes are just as cute. A lot of the shirts in JCPenney are the same exact styles as in Justice and cost way less. I refuse to pay $16.50 for a t-shirt when I can get it somewhere else for 9.99 or less..KWIM??? I got Mossimo jeans at Target for her yesterday for $3.74 each vs. 30-40 bucks a pair at the other stores..I refuse to pay outrageous prices for a name tag!!!

I gotta agree! Justice is only good through 5th grade, unless you live somewhere that there's not a lot of choice!

This is one of the things that makes it VERY hard for us, lol. Cassidy is 12 and she wears a size 7 slim pants and a 7/8 top. :scared1:

How do you think the AERO xxs tops will fit?:confused3

she is a tiny girl...My DD is in 8's right now and she can fit in my little sister's (she is 22..lol) xxs shirts from Aero.

I was just shopping with DNiece this weekend. She's 13. At Aeropostale, she's a O or 1/2 for pants, and generally an XS or S for the tops. The tops are all cut really slim (so would fit a smaller kid just fine, I would think), but they are also a bit long, so depending on kids height, that may be an issue. Maybe better to stick with the tops that are not quite a long.

Dnience is about 5' 3" and around 100 lbs. Her favorite stores (coming from a small town in WI) are Aeropostale, Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie. I took her into an H&M for the first time too this weekend, and she loved it. Aeropostale is best of these price wise, it seems.

Ok, this is so weird....My DD12 (13 next month) is also Cassidy AND she's also TINY!!!! She just got into 10S in the waist......for length we have to buy her 12S and I bought her a 14S on sale a few weeks ago. It's insane!!! She is tiny and so hard to fit. LOL We buy adjustable waists only and pull them as tight as we can, and she has to wear belts too. She's not a fashionista tho so she's fine with jeans from Old Navy or Target. My DD9 is my fashionista, she's the one who wants the $$$ stuff, but she deals with getting ON and Target stuff too. LOL
