Where to run

We are currently staying at BLT. My husband wants to go for a long run, at least 13 Miles. Where should he go? He wants to avoid highways as much as possible
TIA

Yeah, it can be hard to get a long run in around the Disney resorts. Many have running trails of some sort, but they aren't that long (especially CR/BLT which is sort of landlocked). I think @DisneyWishes14's suggestion of FW is a good idea.

Is this a real question?

13 miles is really far.

Not for a runner who wants to get in their long run, it's just another day. When DS was in HS he ran every day and at least once per week was this long. The kids he trains now also have days that are that long.

OP - I agree with DisneyWishes14 - head to Ft Wilderness. Disney is not encouraging of running anywhere other than on sidewalks. If they catch you off the walks, security will likely stop him. That is very restricting for long runs. The campground has lots of paths where it would be fine.

LOL! I was thinking 13 miles was an excuse to keep running and never come back.

But I don’t really know any serious runners IRL. In a small, densely populated area like north New Jersey, 13 miles by car can take hours.

Another option is the loop around the Boardwalk, beach club, Swan/Dolphin that goes over to HS and back to Epcot. If you do the paths around the Swan/Dolphin it’s a little over 4 miles. My husband ran this getting in his 20 mile run when he was training for Dopey last year.

We also have run around Saratoga Springs and over/back to Disney Springs to get in a long run. I can’t recall how many miles the loop was.

Ft W is a good choice. The trail from WL to Ft W isn’t very long but there are all the loops for camping, and cabins. We often see deer walking from WL to Ft W.

The path from Epcot World Showcase to DHS is another good idea, and SSR. SSR is a big resort, and extend to the Treehouses. Then run toward Disney Springs and maybe to the Disney Springs Hotels, where the Hilton, Buenavista, B resort etc are.
There’s also the POR resorts. There’s walkways going along the river, around POR Riverside and POFQ. He could prob get extra mileage in zigzagging around the Alligator Bayou section, running around the mansion building from river to parking lots in back zigzagging. And running around the FQ buildings.

My niece ran every night when we were at POFQ. She was able to get in her miles between POR and POFQ. This trip part of the reason we chose Beach Club is the area she has available to run.

I am a beginner runner but this is where my husband and I go for longer walks at WDW. We typically walk around 7 miles each day at home and love staying at BC because it is a great spot for taking long walks in the early morning. There are lots of runners out each morning on these paths. It's actually a really pretty route - lots to look at.

He just needs to be glad he's not staying at AKL/AKV because there is nowhere to run there except the 1/2 mile path between Jambo and Kidani. And maybe the parking lots.

The TTC/Polynesian to Grand Floridian is also a nice run. If you go from the very end of Sago Cay at GF down around the bungalows to the TTC and back it's a little over a 2 mile loop. Another close option (just hop on the monorail) if he wants a variety of views throughout the trip!

As a runner myself Wilderness makes a lot of sense but haven't done it. I suspect it's also good given it will block the sun in some areas when going on a long run.

One of the reasons we always stayed at POR, being able to run the pathways between POR & POFQ along the water way. The other reason being the relaxing boat ride to get to and from Disney Springs. No longer an issue since we moved a couple miles south of Animal Kingdom upon retirement.

Thanks everyone! He took an Uber from BLT to wilderness L and ran to the trail in the W. campgrounds for a few laps. He said the car ride was really short so he just ran back instead of taking a car. He said it’s not a great road to run on but was fine for the short distance. He said the trail was extremely enjoyable and peaceful

glad he found what he wanted. If you ever go to SSR - then DS is right there plus a path to OKW - but again walking on sidewalks - except for the area in between OKW and DS -

I'm surprised Disney Security didn't pick him up walking along the road to BLT from WL.
