Where to return my iPhone?

This past Christmas I got an iPhone 5s, my first smartphone. It was great right up until Easter then it started acting strange. One day while at work I tossed in in my bag and at lunch time when I picked it up it was very warm and the battery was down to around 45%. Since then it's been doing that intermittently. Some days the battery is still at 80% when I get home from work, other days it's down to 20% by lunch time and I have to shut it down for the afternoon just so there's still some power left for my drive home in case of emergency.
I can't say it's from using it a lot because we can't use our phones during work hours so I'm on it for 20 mins on my train ride to work, then again for my 30 min lunch. Many days it's too close to dead to play on my train ride home. I thought maybe I was leaving too many things running so I make sure to close out all apps before putting it in my bag.
Anyway, this is way too soon to be having such problems and we have a 2 yr contract. At this rate, I don't think it would survive that long.

Since it has a 1 yr warranty, where should I return it? We bought it online at Best Buy with in-store pick up. Our service is with AT&T. Then I thought maybe an Apple store would be better.
I usually am good about saving paperwork, receipts, packaging for a while but I can't find any of this but I can go under my BB account to print my order details.

WWYD?
Thanks!!:goodvibes

That's definitely not right for an iphone. I've never needed mine fixed, but a friend of mine took hers to an apple store and they were pretty good. I actually think that one year warranty is with Apple. So I would take it to an Apple store!!!

I assume you've rebooted, restored etc? Take it to Apple. Doesn't matter where you bought, Apple will handle it. They scan your phone for the serial number right when you come in so not having a receipt shouldn't be a big deal. I've never been asked for one. Make sure to make an appointment, they get busy!

:thumbsup2 Yep, the warranty is with Apple.

Take it to an apple store, to the genius bar. My guess would be this is a software issue rather than a problem with the actual phone.

The exact same thing happened to my wife's IPhone about 3 months after she got it. It's a known bug to Apple, we went to the Apple store and they replaced the phone no charge and no receipt needed. :cheer2:

Yes, apple store, but make an appointment first, I've been turned away when they are too busy just google Genius Bar and make it online.

I had a similar problem. One evening it got very warm to the touch and the battery went to 0. I charged it that night and in the morning it did the same thing again. I took it back to Verizon who told me that they would send me a new Iphone but also stated that if I wanted one right away to take it to the Apple store since they felt the battery was the cause. When I got to the Apple Store they knew it was a software problem and fixed it there.

Either go to and apple store or contact apple customer service. I had my iPhone 5 replaced twice for different reasons. I was so upset and disappointed, because I love all my other apple products. The third one works like a charm though.

make an appointment at the apple store, you are under warranty and they will exchange it

Thank you all so much for your replies. I work in Philly within a short walk of the Apple store. I will definitely make an appt for after work.
You all make me feel so much better. Otherwise I love my phone.

I assume if they give me a new phone they can transfer my pics and contacts to the new one?

They will set you up on icloud backup if you aren't already. They have wifi in store so they can upload the backup to the cloud. And then pull it down on the new phone. They will be very helpful and won't give you a hassle so long as there is no water damage shown on the censors. I had to do an exchange once because my microphone on my 4S stopped working. Expected to have to explain myself but no. They checked the water censors and immediately went to the back for a replacement.

I stay with apple because of their amazing customer service.

I do back up to icloud. It definitely hasn't become wet; it's in an Otterbox.

I found a store close to home and made an appt for tomorrow. yay! :cool1:

Thank you all so much! :flower3: :worship: :grouphug:

I wish they did that but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He did some type of restore that would save all my contacts & pics. He said since it's most likely a software problem, transferring everything back on my phone will often transfer the problem back on it as well. He offered a more complete restore but I would then lose all my pics. I wanted to save them first so I'm doing that now.

The kicker is that they just sent out an upgrade and I resisted downloading it for around a week but then finally did, hoping it would help the problem. He said once you do, it erases the old diagnostics from memory so when he tapped into it, it only showed the low battery warning on 2 occasions but no other info explaining why. He did notice how quickly the battery was depleting just while he was using it. By the time I left the store, it had dropped another 10%. He did check the battery itself and it's good.

So I'll give them the chance to try the other restore. He said if that doesn't help, which I know it won't, they'll give me a new phone.
