My mom has severe arthritis and a replaced hip and knee so she uses a cane or a walker or a wheelchair. She's flying down and only planning on bringing her cane with her. Should she rent from the parks or from some place outside the parks? Where are the best places? Will it affect riding the bus to and from the hotel? What does she need to bring with her for the wheel chair? (I read something about a garbage bag to cover it in case of rain.)

I rent from off site it be cheaper and she have it from the resort to park.

For buses you have two options first is she stay in the wheelchair and she board through the back door and the driver tie the chair down.

Second option

She board through the back door either in chair or came fold the wheelchair and she sit with the wheelchair in front of you. Not being tied down. For this you can Baird through the front door or use the ramp through the back door giving her level ground to walk up and a ramp to push the chair up. She dose not need to stay in the chair in the bus if she dose not want to be tie down but it have to be folded. Know if their no seats she might be better staying in her wheelchair to board since guest have to get up. Now if it a full bus and people are standing then the driver for your safety will call for another bus because it won't be safe to board a full bus.

No matter what she choose rent from off site or at the parks even if she just has her cane they will either kneel the bus or let her use the back door with the ramp.

The drivers will so what ever they have to do to make sure you all have a quick and safe ride no matter what you use.

Highly recommend renting from off-site - depending on where you are staying the walk from your room to the bus stop can be more than she wants to do and then the walk from the bus to the park entrance can be long as well.

I took my parents a couple years ago and both were in wheelchairs - very easy to use the buses.

Also be aware that if she has a handicap placard for the car (and you have a car with you) you can get free valet parking for the duration of your stay (where valet parking is offered). Take tip money for the guys who run for the car but they will then load that rented wheelchair into the car for you.

Most of the big rental places will deliver to your hotel and pick up. I have rented scooters and wheelchairs from Apple Scooter -the equipment is always there on time and in good shape!

Post 2 of that thread has information about renting wheelchairs, including links and phone numbers for the off-site rental places.
