We will be staying at AKL and I know you can't rent a boat there. Where is the best place to rent one. MIL wants one big enough for the whole family, 6 adults, DS9 and DN2. Since I am the Disney expert in the family, everyone comes to me with questions, but I no nothing about renting boats there.

The best place would probably be one of the Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon marinas. They have pontoon boats that can fit 10 people. I'm partial to the Wilderness Lodge because it's a little off the beaten path, however, Poly, CR, GF would probably be able to accomodate you. According to an older book that I have, they rent for $37 a half-hour.

The other reason to rent from the above resorts is that since the two bodies of water interconnect, it is a huge expanse of water to explore. DW and I like to take out Sea Raycers there because of the size and variety of sights to see.

If you want a boat big enough for a family that size, you will have to rent at least a pontoon boat. That is big enough for 8, but does come with a captain, you don't get to drive it yourself.

If you contact Disney through the dining number, they can connect you with the proper person to make reservations.

My family has done the illuminations cruise and enjoyed it. There is also a Wishes Cruise as well. You need to make reservations for these 90 days out.

Here's a link to some info on the illuminations cruise.

to rent a boat you call 1-407-wdw-play... we liked the marina at the yacht/beach club...

Hi we have rented one in the past from DTD, it was quite big and could easily have held 6 or more people.
We took turns to drive and had a great time, that was how we first saw POR and decided we had to stay there.
Cannot remember how much we paid but we had the boat for about an hour. :Pinkbounc

I found some info, but it was on a UK site and I don't know how old it is.

21' Sun Tracker Pontoon Boat (10 people max.) $33.02 per 30 minutes

Canopy Boat (8 people max.) $25.00 per 30 minutes

Does anyone know what the canopy boat looks like. If anyone has pictures they could post, that would be wonderful.

I read some more info on the canopy boat and it said it will only hold 4 people. Is there any other option, besides a pontoon boat? MIL was hoping for something different. We may end up with 5 people, instead of 7 1/2.

BTW, they want to drive it themselves.

Actually, you can drive the pontoon boats yourself. We've done it a number of times. They are very roomy.

What you can't do is drive the boats yourself at night. All the rented boats have to be back before dusk.
