I AM GOING TO THE AKL IN NOV AND COULD ONLY BOOK A STANDARD VIEW. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE BEST REQUEST I SHOULD MAKE? LIKE WHAT TRAIL AND WHERE TO HAVE A BETTER STANDARD VIEW?LOL IT SOUNDS FUNNY BUT ITS TRUE, SOME PARTS IN HOTELS THAT ARE CONSIDERED STANDARD ARE ACTUALLY BETTER THAN OTHERS. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

I stayed in a standard view room on the wing toward the bus stops--4th floor, second room from the end. The location was wonderful for quick access to the pool area and food venues. The view was of the parking area and greenery. -HM

I think the most important thing to request with a standard view room is a high floor so you are away from any foot traffic going to the busses or parking lot. Giraffe trail is more convenient to the pool & food, but it could be noisy because it is near the bus stops & the paths to them. The Ostrich trail side seems much quieter.

If you take a look at the map, here AKL map , you can see that the standard rooms are the ones that face the parking lot. Sometimes they give you a pool view or even savannah view, which is nice.

Personally, I think the best thing to do is to make just a few requests before you leave & then see what you get at check in. They will show you where it is on the resort map, and you can always ask for something else. The CMs seem flexible about that. If you get to the room & it's really bad for some reason, you can still ask to be moved.

We booked a standard room for labor day weekend and I was sure that the resort would be packed and that's what I would get. Five days before I did send a fax stating that we would like to request a room" near" the pool area since we would be spending most of our time at the resort (it was also my b-day trip). Well, we checked in on the Friday around 4:30pm and we were upgraded to DELUXE pool view!!!!!!! Without even asking!!!! There are a lot of pool view rooms and maybe most people do not even book these- since the animals are the draw here and not the water. Well, we loved this location as it was very close to everything! A few times we even communicated with each other from the pool to our room balcony. You never kneo, you could be upgraded. I would ask for a room "near the Pool, on a high floor". You should be fine!
