Not looking to start a debate or hijack the thread, I'm just curious as to the reasoning behind why those who are in need of transfer points can't post such a request. Thanks.
Probably more info than you wanted, but....
It is for the protection of new/inexperienced
DVC Members. A few years ago there were scammers trolling the boards replying to people wanting reservations and transfers, they'd say all the right things and have a cheaper price and took a couple people for their funds. If I remember correctly, at least one went to court.
Now we require that people seeking reservations and transfers reply directly into a thread offering those services and STRONGLY suggest that they only do business with someone whom with the renter or person receiving the the transfer made first contact. We also request that anyone receiving a PM offering points and transfers from a party that they did not contact report that PM. Another suggestion is that they check the owners posting history using the search function to get an overall impression of the person. If they are new to the boards it doesn't necessarily mean they would be bad owner to deal with at all, but renting has a comfort level, and the posting history gives many a higher comfort level.
We also made it a requirement that you have to be logged into the DIS to see the Rent/Trade Board.
And too, we felt that those owners using the board to profit from the rental should contribute to the boards. Many times we saw owners only posting on the Rent/Trade Board, but never participating in any other board threads. Thus, now owners who meet our posting criteria over the previous 6 month period may use the board for no charge, people who do not meet the criteria have the option of supporting the DIS community through a R/T Board membership fee.
