Ok...so we are looking for a nice (but not necessarily "fancy") sit down non-character meal in MK...thoughts or suggestions???

Liberty Tree Tavern has great food and isn't doing the character dining anymore. We like Tony's too.

I would recommend takling the monorail to one of the resorts and trying Kona Cafe, The Wave or Grand Floridian Cafe. We enjoyed Tony's but we only ate there once and it has gotten some mixed reviews. Liberty Tree is blah for dinner imo (tukey, mac n chees all you can eat style) but better for lunch.

We like heading to resort because it is less hectic, better food and more options plus it is only a monorail ride away.

When did they stop having characters at the liberate your appetite dinner? If so will they start up again?

i agree! especially if you're on the DDP. SUCH better food for your money! kona is our favorite but i'd also recommend ohana's and possibly even whispering canyon cafe (a boat ride away from MK to wilderness lodge). it's also really nice to get away from the park for about an hour. :thumbsup2

they stopped about 9 days ago, at the beginning of this year! i think it's really stupid of them. the characters are the appeal to that place - not the food. i mean, the food's okay but nothing you can't buy in your frozen food section and make yourself. as of right now there are no plans that i've heard of to bring the characters back there.

Sorry, no suggestions. Tony's is terrible. Liberty Tree Tavern is inedible. We haven't done dinner at CRT but we've sworn off lunch at CRT and we used to love it.

I recommend Peco Bill's counter service.

Hmmmm, I am surprised at the Tony's reviews.

I've only dined there once, last year and it was late lunch but we loved it. Mind you DD did not like the pasta sauce now that I think of it - there were chunks of tomato in it or something (she's fussy).

I'm not a big foodie, I eat as a necessity - not becuase I love the experience on my palate....I rate based on experience, ambiance, service and this was fine. We had fun and realy enjoyed the servers.

The food was totally fine for Disney standards.

I suggest the Main Street Cafe. It's a small restaurant, but has good food and a friendly cast. Also, if it's near fireworks time, you can see them from inside the restaurant - perfect view of the castle.

I love the LTT lunch menu, and I'm wondering if they'll change the dinner menu to that, since there are no longer any characters.

I've eaten at Tony's once (because the park reached capacity and we couldn't get to Crystal Palace, so we had to rearrange our ADRs). The food was okay, and we had a great view of the afternoon parade, but it wouldn't be my first pick. If it was all that was left, I would go back, though.

Crystal Palace is crazy and difficult to get into, but it's a lot of fun, especially if you have young kids.

None of the restaurants at MK appealed ot us so we're taking the boat to Whispering Canyon at WL. That way we'll get to check out the resort and have a sit down dinner then head back for Wishes.

This past Dec. we had a great meal at The Plaza in MK. My DH had a rueben, I had a very good salad, and my kids had grilled cheese. It was a nice, quick, light sit-down meal and we will definitely be back in May.

I'm so glad you posted this. We are also going in May and are looking for a sit-down meal at MK the night we arrive. We are getting there early and will probably eat lunch at the Poly (Capt Cooks quick service) and should be at the park by 1-2pm. We wanted to sit down for dinner but since we will probably all be exhausted from it being a travel day, flying in that morning, etc. we didn't want a buffet or big meal. The Plaza seems perfect as we can get a sit down meal but it can be lighter (sandwiches, salads) and hopefully a little quicker than the buffets or Tony's. I almost never hear anyone recommend it as a good place to eat at MK so I'm glad to hear a good report.

The Plaza is really good! They have a good variety of delicious sandwiches and salads and fabulous ice cream desserts!:thumbsup2

We enjoyed Tony's and Liberty Tree. However, as a previous poster said, if you have the time it would be worth it to take the monorail to the Poly and eat at Kona. It is AWESOME.

^ I agree with everyone who said Kona! It is delicious and sooo worth it! If you have enough time in the evening definitely take the monorail over to the Poly! :)

The Plaza seems to be very over-looked. While we have never eaten there, we will be having lunch there on our next trip. You can pics of the food on ourlaughingplace.com The menu sounds great and the photos look even better.

Give it a try, from other reports it's a quieter place so it most likely would be a nice break.

Hi! I agree with PPs, the Plaza is good and reasonable. We have enjoyed CP, too. I also recommend Kona at the Poly, excellent for breakfast or dinner. mmmmmmmmm, so many restaurants, so little time........
