OK, I can hardly bring myself to say this but.........my husband and kids dont want to do disney next year (I know, I know!!!) but we want to come over to the US because we like you all so much:teeth: .

We are toying with the idea of miami and the keys but are open to other destinations, my kids are 19,17 and 13 year olds so we like something not too remote or quiet.

Wheezie, take me and my family instead! We're willing and able to go to Disney with you. Better yet... trade the hubby and kids in for newer models!:teeth: ::yes::

How bout touring the US by car/RV?

Boy, that time of year, we like Maine, but that may be a bit tame. Gotta run errands, but will ask MIL while we are out. They travel extensively. Gives me something to worry about other than myself!:D

The Keys are one of my favorite tropical spots. John Pennecamp on Key Largo offers snorkeling on our only underwater national park in the U.S. The coral reef is beautiful. Key West is one of the quirkiest cities I have been to. Lots of fun in the Keys....Now Miami, I'm not so sure about. I've only driven through it, and it really doesn't look like a place I would want to stay. But that is JMO...Others may know of cool things to do there, too. I'm sure you know that August will be VERY hot...

The keys would be great if you want a beach, snorkling, watersport vacation. I do have a couple of other suggestions:

1. One of our favorite trips was a summer trip to Colorado (the Vail/Breckenridge/Keystone) area. We loved hiking, but the favorite activity by far was white water rafting. We have great memories of that trip.

2. Or, how about the West Coast. You could sneak in a little DIsney with Disneyland, but could visit Hollywood, some great beaches, and maybe tour the Napa Valley and San Francisco.

I will be crossing the pond to vacation in your neck of the woods next year.

Happy planning, that is half the fun.

We love you back!:)

I'm not familiar with coastal FL in August but if it's anything like Orlando....hot! And perhaps a bit rainy, too?

I'd consider NYC...all the locals are out of town on the weekends but there're always still loads of free or inexpensive things to do...ahh, you're from London, though...

I'm with sk!mom ..rent a car and hit the Pacific Coast Highway...I prefer South to North (afraid of the cliffs:o). San Diego to San Francisco is GREAT American fun.:)

Yes, if you want to go West, definitely do this!

I'm with you Winka, those cliffs scare me to death! But, it is so beautiful if you don't mind the white-knuckle clamp on the dashboard! ;) :p

California, either Southern California or San Francisco and points east. Or my favorite. Hawaii

Another post made me think of this..Is August and September hurricane season? I'm pretty sure September is, I just don't know when it starts. That would be a shame to have a hurricane move in on your vacation!::yes::

Thanks everyone, Ive been out all evening and just got back in (11.30pm now). Lots of good suggestions, I'm gonna look into the californian option, never thought of going to that coast before but the idea is definately growing on me.

ta,

Wheezie
