We have been to WDW the last 2 NYE. It is very crowded, but alot of fun. First, if you plan on MK you must get there early and plan to stay until the end-it has been at capacity by 10am and it closes to all guest(even resort guests )when its at max and you cannot enter even if you have a PS. We spend NYE 2002-3 at MGM in am until 4:30pm then to Epcot and dinner at Teppanyaki -we had to wait an hour even with PS. They pass out hats and noisemakers around 5:30pm. Lots of people and that year it poured-many outdoor band/music venues. Extra fireworks. NYE 2003-4 we spent the whole day and night at MGM. We had no problem hitting the attractions we wanted using FP and we ate at Brown Derby. Make 90 day PS at the restaurant you want to eat at for the night and they will ask for CC# because it is a holiday. We saw the 3rd Fantasmic show without dinner package seating and it was great. We left around 11:30 and took boat back to Swan and watched the Fantasy in the Sky at MGM from our room(it was wonderful) and then we caught the late Epcot Illuminations fireworks from the dock. It is a lot of fun, but corwds! I would not try MK because of its history, but just my opinion. Epcot also has a Rock n Roll party for extra $$ at the old millenium village with bands, buffets and kids stuff, but we didn't do that.
We will be there 12/26-12/31 this year and will spend NYE at Disney's HHI resort on our way back to Boston. Have fun!
