Notice how I didn't ask how to get Silpat for 'cheap'?;)

I'm not sure that's possible, but I am hoping someone knows how to get them for less since it's almost cookie baking time and I know I need more!

TIA!

Have you checked Amazon.com? They used to have a buy 3, get 1 promotion on Silpat...which you could mix and match with other promo items.

I've also seen the generic ones at Kitchen Collection and similar stores. I don't know how they compare though.

If you don't buy anymore, how about using parchment paper instead?

I can't remember how much less I paid (at least $2-$4, I know for certain), but I bought mine for cheaper from a local restaurant supply store. Also a very good resource for good, thick, but inexpensive cookie sheets.

I will preface this with I have never used a silpat, however, Have you ever tried reynolds release? I think it is about the most awesome stuff in the world! I will never bake without it! :worship::worship: I even bake horn cookies on it, which usually stick like crazy (they are rolled out in domino sugar), and even they don't stick to it! I recommend it to everyone!

A friend turned me on to this idea:

I bought non-stick oven liner at Christmas Tree Shop. (It can be found elsewhere, including Bed, Bath and Beyond.) It was $4.99 for enough to cover the bottom of the oven. It says right on it that it is food-safe and ok to eat off of. So I cut it to fit my baking sheets. I can get 2+ out of one roll. I use it just like a Silpat and it works perfectly! No greasing, no sticking. And I just wash and reuse.

I've never used Silpat but I do use the generic version from Bed, Bath & Beyond. Love it. I think BBB carries Silpat as well and use your 20% off coupon.

Of all things aour Aldi had some (did not say Silpat, but something in German) but it is exactly like the Silpat I have and it was $5.99. SO if you have one nearby - worth a stop.

As much as I read about Aldi on this board, I wish I could say that I did have one near by!

What a great idea. I bought one of those for my oven-going to get another!

Is this made from a different material than the Silpat? I ask because I specifically remember the Silpats instructions being very adamant about not cutting the material.

If it is a different material, does it work just as well? Would love this much lower cost option!

Silpats are made with fiberglass mesh inside the silicone layer, so even if you get a little slice in the material, you should not use it anymore. The oven liners are just made of silicone, so nothing to worry about when cut!

I have 2 Silpats and I absolutely love them! I use them for rolling out dough, cooking, baking etc. I think they are worth every penny. I purchased mine at Bed Bath and Beyond with one of the coupons.

Try looking for EXOPAT MATFER..it's exactly the same thing without the name brand recognition....I can't remember where I got mine though...it migt have been amazon.

I have no advice on how to find this product at a reduced rate; I just have to say how much I love, love, love them!!! My boyfriend has his mom's old ones and they are years and years old and they work like a dream. They make the best cookies in the whole world. People always tell me my chocolate chip and molasssas cookies look and taste like they come from a bakery. I used to make unevenly cooked blobs before the silpat.
