 Please help a first timer locate a reliable place to get film developed before we come home from our trip...I ahve heard too many stories about damaged film with the new xray machines, and I do not trust those places that you "send" your film away to either. Does the SuperWalmart develop, and if so, how much and how long does it take? Are they open 24 hours? Or maybe even Walgreens, but I know around here they cost more. any advice would be great! :Pinkbounc

FIRST FAMILY TRIP EVER------67 DAYS TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a Walgreens a couple of miles from WDW on rt 192, near Osceola Pkwy (close to the new Gaylord Palms). It does seem to me that they are little higher than WalMart for developing, but then I assume all film developing cost more in a tourist area.

I'm pretty sure that Super WM does because I remember looking at the sign with the cost when we were there the last time. The store is 24/7 but if like our local super WM's, the photo lab isn't. However, at our hometown regular WM, if you have your stub, anyone of the other employees will go get your photos out of the drawer if the lab is closed.

Ok, we are really lethargic on vacation, I guess, but we had ours developed (sent out) right from the Contemporary. No problems whatsoever. I know that cost more too, but we didn't waste time driving somewhere to drop it off and then pick it up, or hang around while they developed it. It was Kodak processing and the pictures turned out great. We weren't even flying, just anxious to see our pics.

I've gotten good reviews about the Publix. (grocery store) Someone sent me a PM regarding a coupon on the envelopes. The coupon was something like get a few dollars off or possibly a free roll in you sent in six.

Now I do six rolls easy on a vacation. But we never do it there, we wait until we get home.

yes, superwalmart does it in an hour. Cost 6.96 for 24 exposure rolls.
They can also put them on a cd for about 6.96 each roll.

Gail-

I don't think WM's price there then is any more expensive than here at home which surprises me. We may be $5.96 for a 24 & .96 if you want an index print but $6.96 sounds pretty close. I would have expected them to be considerably higher in a tourist trap.

Are the photo processing machines the same at all of the Walmarts? I ask because I stay away from our WM photo lab. The colors are washed out. I had to have 2 rolls of film redone because they were so bad. (at our WM) I always take mine to Target. The color is amazing, very true to life. Just curious......

No, not all the machines are the same. They are all Fuji mini labs, but, different models.
The wash out of color is because someone is NOT looking at what they are doing and adjusting the density, probably running it on auto and so what you see is what you took. A good photo finisher will make sure the adjustments are done correctly. When I was at Wal*Mart, I trained all my associates on the proper way to process and finish. There was he** to pay if I caught them running on auto or not paying attention to the adjustments. Too many are just too lazy. We won't even comment on the outlab for Wal*Mart, their pictures stink, totally automated and very little QC.
Target is an excellent company for photo finishing. It is Kodak owned and they lease space from Target. For the most part the staff is trained well, also, Eckhart (sp?) is great.
6.96, for 24 exposure 35 mm. is what they charge at the Kissimmee Wal*Mart, I was surprised that they went up from 5.96, but, I guess the largest volume store in the chain can do that. :) YFI, for those with the 27 exposure cameras (one time use) the cost is .29 per print. For those of you whose cameras take extra pictures with a 24 exposure roll, the cost per print is .29. So, even if it is a 24 exposure roll, you will be charged for each print you accept. You cannot believe how many times customers would be annoyed when the 24 exposure roll gave them 26 prints and I charged them accordingly. They just did not get it.
And................that is one of the many reasons I am no longer with Wal*Mart and retail.

Thank all of you for your input, it sounds like Walgreens may be our best bet, as I beleive they do Kodak processing there for about the same price as Walmart....and open 24 hours for developing is a bonus....downtown disney is only a few miles from our hotel:D

Piglets mom,
Walgreens runs on auto only. There is no way they can see the photos because of the machine they use, so, unless you take perfect pictures (and who does?) you will probably not be happy with the results.

Oh no! Where else can I go? I guess maybe I am too paniky that we won't bring home any photos after the xray machines, but don't want to loose picture quality either? Any other suggestions?:(

Do Not take your photos to Walgreens!!!!! Can we say magenta! Take a negative from a pic you had developed from Walgreens and take it anywhere you will notice a BIG difference. I am a photography student and have worked at Wolf Camera/ Wal-mart/ and Eckerd. Actually to give Wal-MArt credit they do some really nice work. Just go during the day when highschool kids aren't running the show and see. I don't like wal-mart i won't shop there but I do take my film there if I'm not working.

Is there a Sam's club with 1 hour developing near WDW? I use the Sam's near my house and have been happy with the quality and very happy with the price.

Piglet's Mom,
You can take them to Wal*Mart or carry them on the plane in your carry on baggage.
Not all Walgreen's throw magenta or cyan or yellow, depends on the chemicals and the film brand you use. IE:Polaroid throws tons of blue, it is a nightmare and a PITA to adjust. Kodak throws terrible yellow when taken under flourescent lights. IMHO, the nicest film to work with is Fuji.
I really don't like to paint the kids working at Wal*Mart with the same broad brush, there are some that are really good. Regardless of the age, they have to be trained, and the training at Wal*Mart can be really bad. But, on the whole, they are pretty good. I had more problems training adults than kids.
Sam's Club uses the same machines that Wal*Mart uses (they are the same company). All Wal*Mart/Sam's use Fuji machines with Fuji chemicals and Fuji Lustre finish paper. They have different models. In fact Kissimmee uses two different model machines. The 370 is the best, IMHO, and gives the best prints. If you use WalMart ask that they print using the 370.
Again, if you are edgy about having your film processed in Orlando, bring it home. They will hand check your film if you hand it to them. You will not need to worry about the scanners.
The real problem comes when you put it in your checked luggage. Also, don't subject it to temp. changes. Heat really does a number on the film.

I guess I just have bad luck with Walgreens and "the kids" at wal-mart. :) I'm just particular about my film it's hard to find someone who can print an indoor "no flash allowed" church wedding. Does anyone know the prices of Disney's developing?
Thanks!
P.S. Gail Hayden-- Seems like you know your stuff. Too bad you don't live near me!;)

Yep, I do know my stuff, and it is too bad you don't live near me, but, even worse, I don't do film anymore. I loved doing the film, I hated selling the other stuff and the stupid questions. IE: What does this digital camera do? How long does one hour photo take?
Indoor no flash weddings? Wow, that is a hard one. Hopefully you are using a really fast film, like 1000 speed. Otherwise it is really hard to make them come out well. Teenager or adult. :)
Disney's film processing is OUTRAGEOUS, about 2.5 times more expensive than WalMart.
I was aghast at the prices and it really stinks, sort of like Walgreens.
I guess I am picky too, especially when it comes to preserving memories. :)

Our WM is generally VERY careful-they even reprinted at no charge nearly a full roll of prints my mom sent into regular lab because they were horrid. The one-hour gals looked at them and said they were unacceptable.

Tonite they were doing special adjustments etc, (can't remember what she listed) for the prom photos brought in. Ours turned out very nicely. They weren't really over-run because it has been snowing and pouring rain here all day so they had plenty of time to work with ours.

I always like to get my Epcot fireworks printed so I can retake if they don't turn out well.
