We'll be at BWV over Thanksgiving. I've never had a body massage at WDW but would like to go for it this time around! Would it be necessary to go over to the spa at SSR, or is there a better option? Thanks!

The closest spa would be at the Dolphin. It looks nice when we were there in May. Also, the spa at GF has re-opened now. I believe the spa at SSR is closed for refurbishment at this time. We ended up not doing a spa visit last time we went, just couldn't justify the cost when we can get the same or similar services at home for 40% less.

I always get a massage on vacation after our long plane ride. I had a one hour massage at Beach Club/Yacht Club fitness centre on our last trip. There were massage therapists and rooms near the gym there. It wasn't a spa atmosphere, but it was equivalent to the therapeutic massages I get at home and with DVC discount was actually less expensive than I pay here at home. It depends what you are looking for. I just wanted to relax and work out the kinks from a long travel day and this was great. The trip before last my husband booked me a one hour massage at Mandara and it was lovely but much more expensive (nearly double). The time commitment was also longer at the spa, as there are all the "spa" extras. The one hour massage at BC/YC took about an hour and fifteen minutes, while the one at the spa was nearly an hour and 40 minutes by the time I'd had time in the waiting room, had the massage, gone back to my locker to change, dealt with the spa products sales offering, and paid. The quality of the actual massage was equivalent, but the atmosphere was very different.

I do mine at home before we leave. I extend the vacation a day and have a spa day at home - including manicure and pedicure. I'm nice and relaxed at the start of the vacation, and can usually get a deal locally, plus I'm not wasting precious WDW hours doing something I can book at home.

My daughter and I plan to check groupon before we leave and purchase massages in the area. Much more affordable!

It looks like Boardwalk has something similiar:

Here's a link with all of the resorts Spa services, including the Mandara

My fiancee and I got a couples massage at SSR last October which is where we were staying. It was wicked nice being able to just walk over to the spa and have the services done. The spa atmosphere is amazing and very relaxing. We are certainly people who will pay more for the atmosphere and the convenience of being on property instead of having to worry about traveling there. We are going to get another couples massage at Senses at GF this year on our honeymoon while we are staying at BLT. Can't wait!

DH gave me a spa present for mother's day at GF senses spa and it was wonderful!
Expensive as heck but it was very decadent.
Definitely a once in a blue moon kind of event.
:)
They just redid the whole spa so or was nice and new.

DH and I also have had massages at the Beach Club, both of our therapists were very good.

What discounts apply, and how much? Aside from DVC, we have premium annual passes.

I am one of those idiots that never think about a discount opportunity until AFTER I pay for something. For example, I just booked and paid for that expensive tour at Animal Kingdom, and then I just saw something online about a possible DVC discount (not sure if it is still in effect) of 15% on that. I am going to call and inquire tomorrow.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. Looks like it is going to be either The Dolphin or BWV. :scratchin

My husband booked me a massage at the BWV last year. They have rooms inside the gym. We got a decent discount with being DVC members. He made sure to tell them over the phone so it was all set on the bill at the end. I will say it was nice, but I might go for more of the "spa" feeling next time.

Boardwalk has a message room in the gym area so you don't have to go anywhere unless something changed from previous years. Hubby always gets a message and has gotten on there. Have fun.

Mandara Spa is very nice and relaxing. They accept Spafinder gc's should you find a deal on them.

We are staying at BWV in a couple weeks and had a massage scheduled right at the boardwalk but we were later called and told it would not be open during our vacation. They didn't say when it would be opening again. I would assume by the time the OP goes it will be back open. We instead made the reservation over at the Yacht Club. You can find the prices here:

My question is can you wait till check out time to get the DVC discount or do you have to let them know ahead of time?

I can't give an opinion on how good/great it was but my dd recently had one at AKL.
