Please move this if I've put it in the wrong place. I'm trying to find a costume for myself for MNSSHP. I'm female and 5'10 and everything I'm finding is COMPLETELY inappropriate for a party with kids or covers me head to toe and then won't work in the Florida weather.

Where did you get your costume?? We go down end of Oct, so I have time to order if need be

The year we went - I made mine. Red T-shirt dress, added polka dots and ears and suddenly I was Minnie Mouse :o). Maybe check out some of the Disneybounding ideas and see if one could work for you. I also saw a bunch of cute ideas in posts from last year and also the 24 hours days (wilderness explorers; Kevin, etc).

I made my costume myself. We're going as pirates, and while all the kids pirates costumes are cute, the women's costumes look more like the lovely ladies from Les Mis. Nothing was appropriate, especially since I'll be 13 weeks pregnant, I would have looked absurd. Pinterest is always my go-to for things like that.

I'm making mine... I have three different occassions where I need to wear a costume this year, that each have slightly different criteria - MNSSHP outdoors and warm, local Harvest Festival - outdoors and potenitally cold/rainy and work party - indoor and office approriate. All need to be easy to move in and I really wanted to do some millinery work, so after much thought ended up with Boho Hippy Chic.

What is disneybounding?
Disneybounding is when people wear "everyday clothes" (as opposed to costumes) that reflect the style of a character. Pictures are better than words...

Check out Pinterest for ideas that you can DIY. Also, as the PP indicated, you can Disneybound quite easily if you want to go the Disney route. If you just want a costume, you can make so many easy costumes in just a couple of hours.

Here are some recent things I have made for my sister since she dresses up every year.
  • Minnie Mouse - Bought some material from Joann's and made a simple circle skirt with elastic white band and made a simple shirt.
  • Batgirl - Black and some yellow tulle cut and tied around a long piece of yellow ribbon for a no sew tutu with a bought Batman t-shirt (I wanted to do a Marvel character, but due to time an availability of 3XL shirt, we had to do Batman.)
  • Snow White - Bought a blue t-shirt and it will be paired with a yellow circle skirt I made her with a red elastic waist band and red binding hem
I have very basic sewing skills and used no store bought patterns for these.

In addition to the Disneybounding ideas I have also been looking at costumes from the Disney marathon runners. There are a lot of the no-sew tutus crossed with Disneybounding which make for comfortable costumes. This year will be my first year to dress up and I am doing Mickey or Minnie. Haven't decided for sure. Either way it will be a red no-sew tutu over black runners capris and a black or red t-shirt. I am ordering one of the sequined Minnie Mouse head bands from the Disney store. If I stick with Minnie, I will add white polka dots to the skirt and maybe switch to a red shirt. If go with Mickey I will remove the bow from the ears.

I'm making our costumes as well, and they are a cross between disbounding and all out costumes. Comfort with extra flair! ie I'm going as the Queen of Hearts, so a comfortable black and white diagonal striped knee length skirt I've added iron on hearts to, a red tank top and short sleeve light weight black cardigan over it. I will likely add some hearts/ribbon/tulle here and there. The Alice in our group did a make your own tutu, then we found a blue peasant blouse at goodwill and a knit white tank to go over it on the clearance rack at target, added some bows and playing card shapes etc.

We are doing the inside out characters for MNSSHP this year. I am going as sadness.... got a white mock turtleneck short sleeve shell from amazon, wearing blue shorts, got fake circle glasses, and using hair chalk to turn my hair blue since I don't want to wear a wig in the heat.

I was thinking about doing the hair chalk for some extra flair too, but my head sweats buckets even when the rest of me is fine. I am afraid I would end up with rainbow colored sweat running down my face and neck!

Etsy has some shops with princess apron costumes. I did Snow White and I paired the apron with a tank top and a tulle slip skirt- it was cute and family friendly.

I agree with Disneybounding. Been to MNSSHP twice and did not buy any "costume", but regular clothes to look like a character. A couple years ago I was Mr(s) Smee. All clothes were bought at regular stores and are otherwise worn as a non-costume, except the hat which I got from Etsy. We've seen other adults in "costume" including mouseketeers (black skirts, white tshirt with their names in Disney font, mickey ears) and disneybounding similar to above posts.

I had that issue last year. No, Halloween stores, I do not need to be a skanky 'insert character here'. That's about all they have now. So frustrating.

Last year we ended up just getting those caped tee shirts. We were Batman and Robin. This year, I think we're just wearing red shorts and yellow tee shirts. I found some red suspenders and some REALLY cute tweedle hair bows at Hot Topic, and we're set! I think. LOL I also have one of those costume dresses (10th doctor) if DH backs out of the Tweedle idea.

As a side note, my Target has a whole shelf full of blue and white striped shirts. Insta Smee!

I finally found the yellow Converse shoes to complete my costume that I have been searching forever for! They are only available at Journeys. I also found a red toile skirt that fits me at Walmart. So here is what I have so far minus the ears. I haven't decided if I will go ahead and just use the Walmart one. Oh and I found the cute Mickey-head TOT bag at Kohls. What do you think?
