Where to eat the first night, most likely at a resort?

Hi! So, my family will be arriving at the Grand Floridian on February 21st, hopefully by early afternoon at the latest. We're planning on going to Downtown Disney and then enjoying the resort that night, so we're trying to decide where to eat for dinner. It'll be myself(teenaged daughter), and parents.

We're not really fancy-dining type of people, so Victoria & Albert's doesn't really interest us. We also hope the meal won't be too expensive, but we know we're eating at Disney, so it won't be cheap.

My mom said she wants a "disney" meal, and nothing was seeming "disney" enough to her. She's interested in Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort, and while I understand it's not uncommon for adults to go to character meals, it just seems like a... loud character meal. I don't know. Any opinions?

At the GF, I've been looking at the Grand Floridian Cafe, which seems to have food we would eat, although it still does seem a little "fancy" for our tastes. :rolleyes2 But it looks like a nice place.

Also, Ohana gets rave reviews. We're possibly interested in eating there. It's just meat on skewers, right? We're picky eaters, but I think we'd enjoy the food. Is this a fun meal? There's entertainment, right? I'd also love to hear any reviews on this one.

Any other suggestions on where we should eat our first night? Either at Downtown Disney, or at a Monorail resort, preferably? We're willing to drive, though, to the other hotels. Thanks for any advice! :goodvibes

If you want the "Disney" experience Chef Mickey's or Ohana are good choices.

I am not a fan of Chef Mickey’s at all, the food isn't very good - IMO.
The times I went I felt that the characters were rushed (not a big deal if your all adults)
But a lot of people seem to love it. Kids always love it.

I found Ohana to be a lot of fun, but I feel the quality of the food has also gone downhill.
This is also one that has a lot of mixed reviews on the food.

Did you check out Kona Cafe?
I think the menu has a nice selection and it is what you would expect to spend for Disney.
It's one of the few places I have never had a bad meal (I probably just jinxed myself for my upcoming trip).

It feels like Disney to me and I always go in the first day or two and on my last day.

I also think you would be fine with Grand Floridian cafe if you liek the menu, but it does not feel like disney to me.

DH is a meat and potatoes kind of guy and he really liked Kona and felt the price was okay for Disney. I also liked Kona. We did not feel the food or service was good at Ohana. However, it is a fun place. We both had steak which was delicious and great service. We went to Chef Mickey's in June with just the two of us and thought it was "fun". We do not like noise or kids running rampant but we were okay with this restaurant. We received as much attention as the kids from the characters. I like Whispering Canyon but DH thought it was fine but nothing spectacular. He liked Kona better. We had good service even though she didn't "play" with us. We enjoyed watching other people and their servers. DH enjoyed the all you can drink milkshakes.

For an adult, fun meal-Raglan road in DTD. Good food, pub atmosphere and Irish music and step dancing-check schedule for when they have dancing.

Since you are staying at the GF anyway, how about doing Cinderella's Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare? Should be pretty "Disney" I would think :goodvibes

I was thinking the same thing. We're eating there for the first time in December and are really excited about it....I hear the Stepfamily is hilarious. Good luck.

I think this is a great idea too!

We also LOVE 'Ohana. We did 'Ohana as our arrival night dinner for many years.:goodvibes

We are two adults, myself(mom) and DD19 and yes we like Chef Mickey's, but yes it is loud, lol! And we find enough things we like to eat that it works out fine, We are disney nuts and love meeting the fab 5 even is we are 'old'!

I would also recommend Kona's for a first night. Not too fancy, and but still nice sit done, and no characters but still feels Disney to us. We did that last year and loved it! We got the NY Strip steaks and they were great! I love Ohana for the character breakfast but don't care for Ohana for dinner. But Kona's has a nice choice of entrees and we had great service.

fayt19 The Grand Floridian Cafe has a nice relaxing atmosphere and is a good choice on a travel day when you will probbly be a little tired...its where we usually dine on our first night...The food is very tasty...and you can also have things made to your personal prefernce...we have some picky eaters in our family and they have always been very accomodating...I agree that Kona is another nice option...

I recommend Cinderella's dinner at the GF. The stepfamily is extremely funny. They stay in character...you can ask them anything... The step mother asked my mom if she had children ..any male children, mom replied she had a 28 year old unmarried son. The SM then proceeded to offer one of her two daughters for my brother's hand in marriage.

This was alot of fun and the food was good!!!

We loved the dinner at 1900PF; ate there our 1st night and it was wonderful. Character interaction was really good, stepsisters were funny.

I second this! It is a lot of fun, great food and a good way to start your vacation!!!
