Where to buy sheets that aren't scratchy?

Looking for SOFT, comfy cotton sheets that don't pill up like sandpaper when you wash them. We bought expensive 2 King sheet sets from Marshalls a couple of months ago with a very high thread count that are just horrible now. I think one set was even a Ralph Lauren. The sheets of course felt nice and smooth in the package but after a few washings they are toast.

Can anyone recommend a nice, cotton sheet set that won't pill up? Do any brands/stores guarantee their products will stay soft?

I don't know if they still have them but there is a good organic cotton line at walmart. They were fairly expensive regular price but they put them on sale every once in a while. We have some for all of our beds, they are washed weekly (well, biweekly since I rotate... but you get the idea) and they are still smooth.

My absolute favorite sheets are the Pure Beech Sateen sheets that Bed Bath and Beyond sells, they are like silk, I love them and I've never even put fabric softener in them. I read about them on Apartment Therapy and had to give them a try. I signed up for Bed Bath and Beyond's mailing list and I get one or two 20% off coupons every month so I never buy them without a coupon so that makes it a little better. I also have the jersey kind that I use in the winter rather than flannel sheet and those do have a bit of piling but it took quite a while for that to happen.

If you want them soft, buy long-staple pure cotton -- no synthetic fibers, and no wrinkle-resistance treatment. Wash them in dissolved Fels-Naptha soap the first few times; it will break down any sizing that was put on by the mfr. Also, dry them in a dryer on low-med heat; high heat will tighten the fibers and air-drying will make them stiff.

I always buy ours at Tuesday Morning and try to stay at about 350-400 tpi; that's usually a good balance of durability and softness.

We like the Hotel collection from Macy's. Buy on one of their big sales. Usually extra off before noon or one. Then use coupon. Really like them. I have oredered from Overstock.com

We just bought a set of Macy's Charter Club, Damask, 100% Pima Cotton, 500 thread count sheets. (This after buying some seemingly soft nice sheets from Bed, Bath and Beyond, that turned into wrinkly, scratchy sheets after the first wash.) They are Awesome!

The Macy's brand king set came with the two sheets, and two king pillow cases with a list price of $185, but we paid about half on sale. We've had them for about a month and washed them about 10 times. They are still softer than any sheets I've ever slept in and they barely wrinkle, even when left in the dryer too long. I'd recommend them to anyone. It's all I can do to get myself out of bed in the morning. The sheets are that nice. They were totally worth the money and there's always a sale on at Macy's anyway.

We like those also. Macy's has had some really great sales lately. I got a set of queen size hotel collection 400 threadcount sheets on sale for 30 bucks. they were clearanced and the coupon was good. color was not the best, a weird yellow

We love the northern nights from QVC. We stick with 300 to 400 thread count. (someone told me years ago that the very large thread counts can be rough because they are so densely woven) they are not only super soft, but last and last. The also have very deep pockets so they fit my large mattress that also has a topper. The sheets never come off on the corners.

I agree with prior poster on the Sferra sheets. I found some 2 ply 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets at Tuesday morning. It was a steal as they had been discontinued.

We splurged on a a great mattress set last year and these sheets are the icing on the cake.

I think designer brands (i.e., Ralph Lauren) are actually LESS soft, especially when they're part of a matching set. What was the thread count on the sheets you bought? My favorite set is 600 ct, I think, which is not really all that high, but they are sateen, which makes a big difference. I rarely use the others any more - I just wash these and put them right back on! Also, the package said high count sheets should be washed like lingerie - gentle wash, cold water, gentle detergent. I have to admit I don't do all of that, but it might make a difference.

I love my Northern Nights sheets from QVC! They are by far the best sheets I have ever owned. I did get some nice ones from Sam's Club not too long ago but even they are not as nice as my Northern Nights sheets!

When you buy high threadcount sheets, I have found that the key to them being soft is the word "Sateen" in the description.

I have a few sets that I bought at Bloomingdale's, their brand, that are great and then I bought another set at Target and I thought it was just the high thread count that made them soft but that isn't true.

I recently found a set of Harve' Benard 500TC Sateen sheets at a discount store called Ollie's and they are so soft! I want to go back and buy another set if they still have them. They were $39.95.

I usually buy one of the name brand at Kohl's when they put them on clearance and don't have any problem with them pilling. I don't recall every having even cheap sheets pill.
