I am planning for our trip and purchasing items to leave in our Owner's Locker, and I would like to buy some decent ponchos before we leave. We have had some from the dollar store that dh hates...any ideas?

We purchased some fairly thick decent ponchos from Walmart. I think I paid around $9 for adult and $6 for kids ponchos. Since we don't store anything, I think on our next visit I would prefer the thin throw-aways that you discard. Are these the type you purchased at the dollar store?

Best. :goodvibes

I got my husband a pretty nice one at Target. . but I am wondering if it was a seasonal thing. . just cruising the internet I found many sites that sold what looked liked pretty serious ponchos for reasonable prices. One thing to note, I have found that the "nicer" i.e.heavier ones do not fold up as small and so take up more room, which for me is a consideration when I am lugging something around the park.

We use the disposable ones that you're spouse likely hates. What about a lightweight breathable rain jacket from a sporting goods store. They are packable and small but of higher quality. The best ones can be quite expensive but you can get some for a reasonable amount. Just make sure whatever you get is totally dry before leaving them wrapped up when you leave. You do not want to buy heavy ones then tote them around with you.

We use the disposable ones from walmart. They are in the camping section. I believe we pay 89cents per poncho. We use them for the day and then throw them out.

The ones from WDW are really pretty good. We bought the yellow Mickey ones (they no longer sell) a few years ago for about $8 (don't know what they sell for now) & they are still in good condition & have even been through the wash a few times. :thumbsup2

I just got some to store in our new OL that we're getting in May. I got some of the disposable 99 cent ones from the camping aisle at WalMart as well as some heavier ones that were I think $6. I also found some heavier ones at Target where they keep the umbrellas that were I think about $8. They were in a mesh bag that could get some air which I don't if that would help them dry out or not.:confused3

I usually stuff a set of the little disposables into a quart size baggie & take those in our daily backpack for those "just in case it rains" days. We also will use those on cooler weather trips for things like Splash Mountain & Kali River Rapids if it's too cool to get soaking wet. I got the heavier ones for those truely rainy days where you know it's going to rain most of the day. The heavier ones from WalMart have plastic pouches that they can be folded & stored in. I will even try to re-use disposables a couple of times too - I can get 3 into a quart size ziplock bag.

I briefly considered getting "really good" raincoats from a sporting goods store but I know in the end we won't really want to deal with them because they will be so much bulkier to carry around.

Not really. We have L.L. Bean rain jackets that are very light weight (think windbreaker type) but keep you completely dry, and they pack as small as one of those $.99 ponchos.

Thanks everyone, I kind of like the 50 cent disposable ones because then you just throw them out so even if you look like a trash bag for a while who cares, but at least for DH I will try some of the suggestions. ;)

REI tends to have really good ones as well. Pricey though - but they hold up forever and will pack very small and light.

Golf shops often carry good quality reusable rain gear.

We got them at Bed Bath & Beyond. They were in the travel bins section and they folded up nicely into the little plastic case that they came in.
