My husband and I are very interested in buying 210 points. We just got back from a visit, where we stayed at the Boardwalk Inn and went to the open house at SSR. We strongly preferred BW, but were referred, and the current promotion at SSR is very tempting, plus the annual dues at SSR are lower. We'll probably go once a year at the end of June, but may skip a year to save up points to bring other family members. Buying BWV is the only way to guarantee that we can stay there, but are we crazy to pass up the 15% SSR offer with 2005 points? People tell us we shouldn't have a problem getting BWV at the 7 month mark, and then others say only buy where you want to stay. Looking for opinions. If we're going to do SSR, the incentive runs out for us on Wed. (only gave us 72 hours after we returned home to take advantage) Thanks!! :)

Man, that is a hard spot to be in. But, you only have the three days IF you are planning to buy SSR. You can buy BWV at your leisure. I opted for BWV when I bought earlier this year, and SSR was 87 a point then with incentive, and I am glad that I did. I like the location and I think SSR is too far removed from the action. But, it is a beautiful resort for sure.

It is a personal decision, and if you buy BWV and then decide you want SSR, you can add-on at the incentive price anyway as long as it hasn't expired. Disney can sell you BWV as well as SSR, just call your guide and get on the waiting list, and if you aren't too particular about the use year, the points should come through within a week or two, with a little pixie dust.

Good Luck with this decision.

Remember that standard view rooms at BWV cost less than SSR so you could actually get a smaller contract at BWV for the same accomodations (e.g. 9 vs. 11 point studios). However, I agree the current SSR incentive is attractive. My experience is that if you like 1BR std view, you can get those at 7 months for May Sep and Jan. Otherwise standard view is tough to get at 7 months. This option was important to us. I also would not hesitate to offer lower bid for resale now that SSR has come down. BWV sellers should take that into consideration (as should DVC with ROFR).

Right now, depending on dates some can(and do) book at the 7 month window stays at VWL, BCV and BWV.

10 years from now how many NEW MEMBERS could there be?

I think that many of those new members could share your idea of booking at an EPCOT resort even though they bought elsewhere. Forcing everyone that owns at resorts with a high demand to book at 11 months(filling up the resorts).

I would look at it the other way, if you Like SSR buy it and consider any visits to other resorts a bonus.

If You could not tolerate staying at SSR till 2054, do not buy there

Just my take.

Buy where you want to stay. We originally bought at BCV because we loved the feeling of that resort but after staying at VWL we loved that so much we bought there on a resale. BCV was perfect for EPCOT and the Food & Wine Festival and VWL was just a boat ride away from the MK.

We stayed at SSR a couple of months ago and we personally found it to be too far away from everything. It was beautiful though.

Good Luck!

To me the big factor for SSR is 12 extra years and the big one for BWV is location. Only you can decide which is more important to you. The BW location is important enough to us to give up the 12 extra years, but then we are old far-- who will be drooling when our BWV membership expires. Good luck with your decision!
P.S. Right now I think you could get June ressies at BWV at 7 month window if you are not set on standard or BW view. It remains to be seen what will happen to 7 month ressies as DVC gains more and more members.

are you planning on going Dec 1 - 20, thanksgiving week, during the food/wine festavial

if not go with SSR - if any of the these days fall into you must have BWV - then go with BWV. these days may change over the years - but so far the only addition is Thanksgiving week.

now if you asking about the standard view villa at BWV - then you better buy BWV. that doesn't mean that at times you can't get a BWV standard view - there will definitely be times when anyone can get a BWV standard view. but most of the time BWV standard view is hard to get for the owners of BWV.

Thank you all for your advice. We're leaning toward BWV because my husband feels that it's worth the extra money (and less years) not to have to worry about staying where we want, especially if we want to bring others and get a bigger villa. Even if it is possible now, will it change over the years as DVC grows? Still welcoming comments.

More owners will mean more competition for the popular resorts at popular times. However, what is not clear is which resorts those will be. Now, many people like VWL, BCV BWV and so forth, in 10 years they may be clamouring for the VCR or some other resort. Only time will tell, I say buy a contract where you would want to stay most of the time. This is not a small investment for most so don't let a relatively few dollars ( in the grand scheme) get in the way of what you really want.

Add February (with the possible exception of President's Day week) to that list. I JUST booked at SV 1B at BWV for the last week of February '06. That's barely 4 months away. :)

The 1BR SV is the easiest to get. Studio and 2BR much harder. We recently had to change our January ressies and was worried about SV. We ended up with MLK week in 1BR SV with no problem. However, there were no studios (or 2 BR's) for any of the nights that week. You always have the best chance in a 1BR SV. Welcome back "our" resort.

Your comments were referring to reservations inside the 7 month window, right? Should I expect to have a problem getting any size standard view room for late June if I call at the 11 month mark for BWV if it is my home?

While it is possible to have an issue at 11 months (and I'm sure some do book them day by day), I have never had an issue with this. This includes standard view studios over Columbus day weekend (F&W). Certainly no issue at the end of June that I'm aware of. My point was that non-owners have a decent chance of getting a 1 BR SV at different times throughout the year - perhaps more often than I am aware of. However, it is much more difficult to get SV studios inside of 7 months at any time of year (although it does happen). So, if SV is important to you and you want studio or 2 BR's and you can plan ahead more than 7 months - you really need to be buying BWV.

We bought initially through resale (and just added on through DVD) BWV because of the location and the theme. We toured SSR and think it will be a fine place to stay, but not our preferred location. My main impression was ""sprawling." There is no doubt that the math is compelling for SSR, but I was left with the feeling that while I would stay there, I wouldn't necessarily want to stay there.

What if you bougt some at each resort. Buy the minimum and then do an add-on at the other. I don't know if that would help but it would give you some pints with alonger contract and some at the resort you want to mainly stay at....just a consideration....
