Where to buy Ballet & Tap shoes

PSA:
Do NOT buy dance shoes from Payless!!!
Seriously, they are HORRIBLE for little feet. The ballet shoes are way too stiff, and the child picks up bad habits wearing them. They do not fully articulate thier foot, so they do not learn proper pointe. This causes lots of problems down the road. You can get good Capezio or Bloch shoes for about $2 more. Same with tap shoes. Payless shoes have no support. Capezio taps are about $3 more than payless and so much better. Sizes will vary based on the manufacturer and even the style of shoe so I would have my child fitted the first time and order online as the foot grows. This is especially true if you have achild with narrow or wide feet. Improper fit can be a serious hinderance to proper technique.

My DD is starting her 6th year of dance. We've always had a specific brand/type of shoe to purchase...same with leo's/tights. The sizing has always been pretty easy for me to figure out with online ordering, in all her years dancing, I've only had to send 2 pair back...1 pair ballet, 1 pair jazz. This year she is moving up to more advanced classes and we have to get a different type of tap shoe as well as lyrical, so we are getting fitted at the studio today.

I agree with the others since the studio is not specific in the brand of shoe, Payless will be a good option and you can get her sized. We always purchase from Discount Dance Supply, All About Dance or Just for Kix (unless we have to be sized like this year :rotfl:).

I hope they have a great time in dance. Its been so much fun for my DD over the years.
My DD7 is starting her 5th year of dance this year, and will be starting lyrical as well! She switched to the pull on taps last year because we had fit issues with the mary janes. I get a lot of stuff online as well. DD has had a ball dancing, and we are up to 7 costumes this year!

American Ballet Theater for Spotlights are the shoes sold at Payless... for some reason, I don't think ABT would support or endorse a shoe that is not acceptable for ANY dancer.
