she needs a formal short dress for a dance. We looked all day today but they all seem to be strapless and she wouldn't do well with that. Any ideas online of where to get a cute dress at a good price?

Do you have a Deb near you? They have some nice dresses and they arent super expensive..

We were in Kohls today and they had some beautiful dresses. They had the spaghetti straps and they also had the cute short sweaters that you could wear over them.

I was wishing DD12 had somewhere to wear it besides Easter as I would've loved to justify the price.

Oh yeah, this was the junior department.

There are a few with some type of shoulder or spaghetti strap here

is cute in purple and only $60

Our Sears is having a great sale on their dresses. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I second Kohls. I have gotten DD13 many dressy dresses there. THe last one she wore for a formal night on a cruise, and is going to where it to her 8th grade dance.

we don't have a kohl's, but DD and i found her a great valentine's dance dress at jcpenney for $40.00. it had spaghetti straps and she LOVES it. she also wore it to a friend's birthday party, which was a masquerade ball. the dress was in the juniors' department and was on clearance, along with LOTS of other cute formal/semi-formal dresses. we found them by the juniors' dressing rooms.

What about JC Penney's or Dillards? That's where I always get mine and I used to go to the Jr department.

Another vote for Kohl's. Just picked up DD14 four dresses (2 from online that aren't in the store). She will be graduating 8th grade, has a formal dance and various graduation parties to attend and they all require dresses.:sad2:

If she really likes a strapless one maybe you could buy some ribbon and add them as straps. That is what I have heard of some of the girls do that go to a christian school for prom. Theirs even have to be a certian width. I guess this would only work if you have good seamstress skills or know someone who does. I am sure she will find a beautiful dress either way, good luck.

I have just found this site and have ordered a couple of things, so far so good. You might find something, some of their dresses are dressier and pretty reasonably priced. They sell out quickly though so order a couple of sizes to make sure you get what she wants if you see something.

A lot of the dresses are for the younger set I think. Unique stuff. Good Luck. Hope she has a great time.

This is exactly what I bought my DD15 in Kohl's TODAY. We had to get the short sweater to go over it because she said, "MOM, I have NO TAN! My arms look soooo white". :lmao:

Sears. They have really nice party dresses at reasonable prices. My DD15 got her's there last year.

Deb Shop definitely!

I got my dd 15 a formal short with straps dress there last year for $30 and this year $19.99! They have a pretty nice selection also and it includes animal prints if she's into the Zebra and Leopard deal! :thumbsup2 But they also have plain dresses very nice selection we always find something at DEB!
And you cant beat the prices!

What about David's Bridal? I saw some ranging from $50-$80 the other day when I was looking for a dress for a wedding. They had several short dresses there, as well as ones with straps, ones with sleeves, and every color you could think of.

I have great luck at Boscov's for my daughter. Their junior section has great and appropriate dresses for less than $20. She found one for $9 and another for $19.

She is going to a lot of formal functions this year (bar/bat mitzvahs) and she was in a wedding so we had to pay for quite a few dresses.
