First, decide on your budget and eliminate any choices that exceed your budget. Since your dates are in late August, I would expect to see some kind of discount come out that would include your dates - they just aren't out yet.
Once you've done that, make a list of the amenities you want at your resort to have a great vacation. You should be able to eliminate several more resorts based on the list.
Once you've narrowed it down to just a few, then pick based on theme and location.
There's no one perfect answer, because every person is different. If your budget is a value only budget, then I agree you might want to consider one of the All Star resorts for different themeing. If your budget will stretch to a moderate, I like POFQ for the small size and the fact it's first on/first off the PO buses. Off property is always another suggestion - you can typically get more for your money staying off property, but I feel you lose some of the Disney magic when you do that, plus if you are flying you lose ME and you have to factor in the cost of a rental car.
