Where should they stay?

So, as I am excitedly planning my trip to the Fort for December, my parents, who were going to skip this trip, have decided to come with us. We are thrilled - they always join us when we go to WDW - but the last time we all camped at the Fort in our RV, it got a little crowded and so they weren't comfortable. This time, they decided to join us, but stay in a WDW hotel. So, the big question ... where should they stay that would give them easier access to our site? The cabins are the obvious choice, but that is a lot for only 2 people. They will be joining us for dinner most nights and may even want to meet us in the morning and head into the parks together. A friend recommended Riverside. Any help would be appreciated.

How about Wilderness Lodge. They could take the boat back and forth.

The cabins may be alot, but pricewise they are going to come in less than all the deluxe's, but have close to the same amenities. (private porch, separate living room area, privacy, ect)
Are there kiddies coming?-Another thought with the cabins is that though you may all want more space, if there's one night that the kiddies do want to have a cabin sleepover, they can!
They could come in at less $$ if they go to another Moderate or Value, but for me, I'd rather be close to each other. Less calling back and forth...less 'we're coming, we're waiting for the boat, or the bus.' Not that that's a big issue either, but ya know.

You do make a good point, Scarlett, but my mother is one of those people who doesn't like to be "wasteful" and she feels like she'd be paying for more space than she needs. I'm trying to talk my sister (with husand and child) into going with her and staying in the cabin. That would make my mother feel better about staying there.

We stayed at FW in March and as with your situation my in laws decided late to join us, but did not want to stay with us in the 5'er. They ended up staying at the Port Orleans resort. They would drive over to FW and meet us at the bus stop. The days we went to MK, we picked them up at the Outpost and they rode with us to the boats. PO is not far from FW so it was convenient. I have not stayed there, but they were pleased with the rooms, etc...

They can stay at FW And it would be a short bike ride back and forth...

The Wilderness Lodge would definitely be the most convenient.
You can actually walk between the Lodge and the Fort.

Port Orleans / French Quarter would be the next best bet after WL or the Monorail Resorts, assuming they have a car. It is close by, and a moderate, so the prices are lower.

As mentioned, WL connects by boat, walking or biking, driving and the Yellow bus travels from FW to WL and back.

Would back this up as well. We have stayed at POR and really liked it. It is close to drive. They can take a boat to Down Town Disney and then the bus to the Fort, but I would recommend driving and you picking them up at the entrance. If you have a cart, then this really isn't too bad a thing. The drive is quite easy. Then once they are with you at the campsite, you can all use the same transit to the parks. This is what I would say if money spending is not an issue. If they don't mind springing the extra money, then the WL is the best and easiest choice.
