we are flying from the UK to Miami, as we couldn't get cheap flights to Orlando.

Since it's such a long flight I don't want to jump straight into the hire car and drive all the way to Orlando, but we don't want to stay at the airport hotel either.

What I would really like is to find somewhere nice to spend half a day or so, on the way between Miami and Orlando - we land at about 2, so will probably be on the road by 4, so if we drive for an hour or 2, then stop have some food and maybe go to the beach? and in the morning we won't have too long a drive to Orlando.

Can anyone suggest anywhere nice to stay?

Disney's Vero Beach Resort is just about half way between WDW and Miami. It's right on the ocean, and will get you in the mood for WDW!

If you havne't already bought your plane tickets, you might want to look at Fort Lauderdale as a better airport, much nicer than MIA and more manageable. Also about 30 minutes closer :D

Thanks Anne - we've already bought the tickets, so it will be Miami - KLM were having an incredible sale, but the only valid airport in Florida was Miami - but for £175 (that's about $250) I'm not complaining!

is there anywhere else to stay at Vero Beach? I think Disney's resort will be out of our price range.

Bev-- What is your price range?

Depending on the time of year, it might even be dark by the time you get your rental car and head out, so I'm not even sure you'll want to head to the beach. (I was in Miami last March and it was definitely too cold to go to the beach!) It's a very easy drive from Miami to WDW. Straight up the FL turnpike. You might want to think about Fort Pierce as a halfway point, there are some inexpensive hotels in that area, and it's safe. What day of the week are you talking about, and when? If it's off season and mid-week Disney's Vero Beach is quite affordable!

It's Friday 31st May, I was thinking up to about $150 a night max, for somewhere special in a nice location, or cheaper (<$100) for a basic hotel that would just be used to sleep in.

I would love to stay at Vero Beach - we are planning on doing the same thing (stopping half way) at the end of our trip (Friday and Saturday night, 15th & 16th June) and I did look into Vero Beach, but Friday/Sat nights seem to be very expensive.

I had a little think about this and decide to search the internet and see if I could find a good deal for Vero Beach ans it does sound ideal - and I managed to find this special offer.

So, I've booked a studio for $149 - should make for a great start to our trip!

I'm so glad--you will LOVE it there!! It is simply the most relaxing place I've ever vacationed.
