We have an RCI exchange, but don't want to go to our original destination. I'd love ideas for a resort in the good 'ol USA :)

I'm not really concerned about when we go, We have until 11/2012 to use the exchange. But I have to change resorts and would like some good ideas for US resorts. We've only gone to Disney since 1978:rotfl2:

What Deb is saying is that RCI trades are sometimes difficult to get especially if you are looking to stay at the "best" resort. Many members have forfeited their points because the trade never came through.

TUG (www.tug2.net) has a good set of reviews of most all timeshares. It costs a few dollars to join to see them (about $15), but could be well worth it.

They have some free "Top 10" lists. But, as was pointed out, availability at some of those resorts can be difficult to come by.

The first one that comes to mind is the villas at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii. I'm thinking there might be some nice places in Arizona or Florida, too.

However, just to manage your expectations, November 2012 actually isn't all that far away in the timeshare booking world. 2 years is the ideal window. That or a last minute booking is good too if you have that flexibility and live within driving distance.

The TUG website is an excellent resource for researching different options!

Of the top10 RCI resorts listed on tug, 3 are DVC and 5 are in Mexico or the Caribbean. The other 2 are: Big Cedar Lodge (near Branson Mo.), and St James Place in Beaver Creek, Co.

I like these resorts (have stayed at them all):
Hilton W 57th St, New York City
Hilton Waikoloa (Kohala Suites), Waikoloa, Big Island, Hawaii
Hilton Kingsland, Waikoloa, Big Island, Hawaii
Hilton Lagoon Tower, Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii
Hilton Grand Waikikian, Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii
Hilton Kalia Tower, Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii

I also like and have stayed at several of the resorts on Sanibel Island, Fl.

(Now if DVC was still with I.I., I could list a couple of dozen resorts to suggest.)

I agree with PP. Many using RCI have already made their vacation plans thru summer 2012--me included. If you are looking at summer (end-June-mid-Aug) or Christmas, Easter weeks, you need to put in requests ASAP and also be flexible. The RCI book is really a "wish" book with many resorts rarely available b/c owners use their weeks. SW Fla is an example--getting a spring break week is almost impossible, same for Western skiing over Christmas.
If you can go slightly before/after prime time, you will have more luck.
I agree to go over to tug2.net and do searches for resorts you are interested in. You can also post questions on TUG--be sure to include the time period you want to travel, whether you have kids, what types of vacations you like, and general geographic area.
We live in DC and have traded via RCI to Flagstaff (Grand Canyon area), Pacific NW (Oregon), Hilton Head, SC, Williamsburg, VA, Smugglers Notch, VT, and HGVC Hawaii. All of these were great vacations. Good luck, Elaine
