Where is the best coffee in DL?

The Cafe du Monde blend is not made to a mud-like consistency, but it isn't watery either. They have it just strong enough so that you can savor the flavor but not be hopped up on caffiene.

I know I'm digressing a bit but the chicory served at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans is certainly not weak! I haven't had it at Jazz Kitchen Express but everywhere else I've had it, it's pretty heavy stuff.:scared1:

oh I know...I think you misread what I was saying...the coffee at Jazz Kitchen is not Cafe du Monde...I think it is Nescaca...I was saying that they serve Cafe du Monde at BB and Cafe Orleans...sorry for the confusion:goodvibes

All of DLR uses Nestcafe coffee because of a corporate sponsorship agreement with Nestle. (Nescacrap, I call it)

The only place to get anything other than Nescacrap in DLR is at the Compass Bookstore in DTD. I have read that they use Peet's coffee.

Being the coffee snob that I am, I bring my own beans/grinder and brew my own coffee in my hotel room and carry it into the park in a travel mug. :coffee:

I think the deal with the DL espresso drinks is, they just throw them together and I agree Nescafe really does stink. When you are used to having a drink made with care by a barista, with some level of consistancy, getting a throw it together shove some ice in it, drink that is as expensive but not as large as a STarbucks or Peets it's annoying. Now here is San Jose, Mc Donalds is now offering ice coffee drinks. I had one yestereay a 32 oz ice drink was $2. Honestly, for that price, I will hit the MCD's on Harbor and bring in myown.

Okay, I bought my "hot pot" (Russell Hobbs) yesterday at Ross for $11. I tried it out and wow, does the water heat up fast! It should be easy to fit in my suitcase and I'll just stick my French press inside for the suitcase trip it will make. Now, do I bring my grinder or grind before I go (4 nights in DLH)? So many big decisions :rotfl: The kids (3 of 'em) will get their cocoa and I'll get great coffee. DH is perfectly happy with anything remotely resembling coffee, which I must say is probably an advantage over someone like me with a more discriminating palate :confused3

BTW, I am lucky in that I have a dd who is a manager at Peet's, so she often sends me coffee. Nice "perk," eh?! My favorite favorite type (which I have to buy, but get a 50% discount) is the Blue Jamaica that comes out during the holiday season. I think that's what it's called. Even at half price it's still something like $20 for a half pound

Our last trip ( 5 nights ) my DH ground our beans into individual ziplock bags and then all we had to do was pour it in to french press and presto! Our boys also had to have chocolate w/ cream :woohoo: each morning and found a small bottle of nestle powder and it was wonderful for them! My DH even used some in his coffee a couple of morns. :thumbsup2

Just got back, we had espresso at Compass bookstore every day. (we tried both hot and iced) It isn't Peet's coffee, the woman there turned up her nose at me when I asked that.

They use a california brand named Coffee Klatch Roasting from San Dimas, CA. Their website is klatchroasting.com - their espresso blend just won as #1 espresso in the world for 2007, competing against 45 other countries.

Not too shabby! And yes, it was as tasty as we remembered from several years ago.
