a White Christmas every year,

mountains,

and some type of water!

Feel free to name towns. We are just researching and looking for when we move 2 years down the road. We love cold weather!!!! We want SNOW but also some type of mountains and water for summer time.

Also good schools, good standards of living etc. I need towns people towns...LOL!

but I live in lower NH. I'll bet in the northern part of the state, say Colebrook or Pittsburg they have a white Christmas.

Most of our snow is in January, February. Don't get me wrong it can snow in October but for something to stay on the ground, you'd have to go north of us. Takes a while for the ground to freeze solid enough to have a sustaining snow.

ocean and mts. and lakes and forests.......Maine is the place for you......here you want it and we want to get rid of it...hahaha....plus our summers are regular ones with heat and humidity and haze....just like any other place

You can officially mark Georgia off you list

Can't always promise the white Christmas, but NH has all the rest. We have mountains, rivers, lakes, and ocean, usually 4 seasons (although this past year it dwindled down to 3 - cold, rainy, and hot). ;) Did I mention the outlet shopping!? :Pinkbounc

Don't worry we are going far far away from the SOUTH!!!!

We were actually looking at Maine but wanted some town names so we can search more specifically.

We found Waterbury Vermont very nice online as well but we are definatly leaning towards, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire or possibly Minnesota or Colorado.

Deb,

Could you suggest some cities. We don't want to live in a large city but not in the sticks either.

Well if you want snow then of course SYRACUSE NY
with great basketball and mountains about 2 hours northeast and water right here. Syracuse is close to the center of NY so about 3 hours West to Niagara Falls 2 hours north to 1000 Islands/Canada and about 6 hours east to NYC.
We had 193 inches of snow last year. We also have some great skiing in Tully/Cortland area about 45 minutes south.
www.syracuse.com will give all sort of info.

Hope that helps.

How remote do you want?

You can't bet on a white christmas every year, but New England definitely gets our fair share of snow.
I like living in RI - we don't generally get as much snow as ME and VT (which is good because by February your back is almost permanently hunched over), and I live within an easy drive of almost everything - cities, beach, country, suburbia, mountains, cool things to do, shopping, etc...And there are lots and lots of great schools.

Colorado!

There are many areas, we love the Estes Park area, but really depends on how large of town you are looking for.

How about Wisconsin? No Mountains, but definitely snow! :) It is also nice and hilly here. Nothing extreme, but it makes for beautiful scenery.

I live in the Chippewa Falls area which has Lake Wissota. That is where Jack Dawson was from in Titanic. ;) :D

We are 1 1/2 hours from Minneapolis which I like because of the Mall of America and the airport. There are a lot of lakes and rivers here. Boating, hunting, and fishing are big things to do here. I remember from your previous posts that your DH and DS like to hunt. There are lots of summer events going on. They just had Rock Fest and Country Fest is pretty soon. They get lots of big names at these events.

Chippewa Falls is right by Eau Claire which has a nice mall. There is also SuperTarget, Walmart, Kohl's, TJMaxx, Best Buy, etc. Restaurants around that area are Garfield's, Applebee's, Olive Garden, etc. Typical things I would say. :) I told DH as long as there was shopping and some good restaurants I would be happy!

DH grew up on Southern WI. He grew up hunting and fishing with his family. I think it is a great place to raise a family. :)

Here are a couple of links. Hope they help!

Cleveland :D We don't have the mountains but we usually have a white Christmas. We've also got Lake Erie.

Hi,

No mountains in MN!, but we have everyting else you listed. We do NOT get the heavy snowfall other parts of north receive.

herc.

Definately NOT Georgia. In 33 years, we've had 2 white Christmases-twenty years apart:eek:, and neither one was all that white.

I'd think Colorado or Montana would have white Christmases.:) I want white Christmases too.:(

Montana has all of that. It can be a little cold in the winter and they sometimes don't get lots of snow but what they do get stays for a long time.

Probably Bozeman or Missoula would be the largest towns near the mountains. Any of the towns along the edge of the rockies. If you want more metropolian you'll be out of luck, the largest town is Billings and has around 100,000.

Lots of water: lakes, rivers, mountain streams.

Minnesota has lots of water, lots of snow, lots of cold, great schools, and quality of life, but not much for moutains! We have some great moraine cliffs though.

Can't really recommend any specific cities, but I personally *LOVE* Colorado. :)
