I've been to Disney World at least 10 times before but this is my first time going as a vegetarian. Does anyone know where I can find a tasty vegetarian meal. Any and all suggestions and pictures would be helpful!
:thanks:

Well I read on Coral Reef Menu they had a vege entree.. Im sure all of the restaurants will accomidate you just have to let the CM know!!

I'm not a vegetarian, but I prefer vegetarian meals most of the time. I very rarely order a meal with meat and had absolutely no problem at any of the WDW restaurants over the past few years.

Almost every counter service I have ever been to offers nice salads. Some of them come with chicken or other meats, but I usually ask for them without the meat and have always been accomodated ( usualy at a reduced price!).

I shouldn't complain about WDW meals, because I know they are trying to accomodate lots of different people from all over the world, but I really find their meals full of meat, carbs and very unhealthy in general. Even the salad bars in the buffets seem to be full of heavy, high calorie foods, with lots of heavy dressings.

I'm from the Pacific NW and am lucky that we are so close to Calif. and have access to wonderful produce year-round. I never realized how healthy our restaurant's were until I went to Orlando. I think the Southern influence really shows in their menus and makes it hard to eat healthy. If you are not used to eating that way, it really takes its toll on your stomach.

But what the heck, I'm on vacation anyways, so I try not to worry too much!

Columbia Harbour House in MK makes a wonderful hummus sandwich with tomato and brocolli slaw. Their vegetarian chili is good too.

Definitely try BOMA at AKL(especially if you are staying on-site) they have a great selection of veggie foods and if you don't find enough they will make you something special. i can usually find something veggie at every sit down restaurant and if there is not one on the menu, just ask.
we also love columbia harbor house at MK as the above stated.
nachos without the meat in mexico at the CS place.
california grill is great as well, but pricey.
50s prime time was a surprise wonderful meal for me- the veggie stuffed pepper was great!

A few years ago, DD decided to go "vegeterian" (she lasted a year at it - pretty good for a teenager).

She liked the vegetarian meal at Garden Grill, the vegeterian meal at the Luau at the Poly, cheesy fries at FlameTree BBQ in AKL.

She DID NOT like the veggie burgers (neither did I) at any of the counter services we tried.

Boma is the best for veg food.

Whispering Canyon Cafe has a great veg skillet dinner.

The Land food court has lots of selections.

Most of the other sit-down restaurants have at least one veg entree, but these are the only two I have tried.

WDW has become pretty good with veg food in the last few years. Improvements all the time. Check allearsnet.com for their veg articles.

Most restaurants will also prepare something veg for you - include the note on your ADR and tell them at the podium also.

Kathleena, I haven't heard of the wcc veg. skillet! Is this true? when did you have it?? We have a PS for sept. and I was somewhat nervous because my boyfriend and I are both vegetarian, so I was really hoping there would be something good as a main dish. I had only read there was a vegetarian 'stew' there. Please let me know what you know about this! Thanks!

As for the OP here are my favorites:
sci-fi vegetable potato bake thing. really good.

Boma has tons of vegetarian food and the chef made me this amazing tofu vegetable dish that I could not get enough of.

Teppenyaki is fun and they will make you veggies which are actually decent.

Places we have not been to but are going to try in september: San Angel Inn, from what we hear they will make their dishes vegetarian with beans.

Alfredos: fettucine alfredo of course!

Mama Melrose: they have a few veg options including pizza and eggplant.

HTH
tricia.

Oh I forgot to add my counter service favorites.

Magic Kingdom Columbia Harbor house: they have a hummus and slaw salad that is AMAZING. They also have a vegetarian chili which I have yet to experience.

The land in epcot (can't remember the name of the counterservice place) has a 'vegetable rueben' sandwich that's really good, good bread.

tricia.

giving this a bump to find out about WCC. Also for the OP there are TONS of pictures here!

check it out!

Well, I called it a skillet, but maybe I was thinking of the huge skillet they put in the center. So semantics a little.

Also, I think of a stew as being mostly clear broth - this was not when I had it. It was chock full of stuff! I couldn't finish it. I would never call it a stew, unless it has changed.

Vegetable Stew - Cannellini Bean Stew, Oven Dried Tomatoes, Grilled Yellow Squash, Baby Spinach with Garlic, topped with a nest of Yukon Gold Potatoes, and Honey Basil Ginger Oil $17.49

The little walk up service in Mexico - the one on the lake - the will do this also. Everything they list is non-veg, but they will make anything veg for you.

I would just assume the restaurant would do it.

So many places! My favorite on our last trip was Boma, as there is so much on the buffet to choose from. I also liked Tangierine Cafe, Seasons, the Main Street Bakery and Columbia Harbour House best for counter service.

Most restaurants have veggie-friendly entrees, and breakfasts are super-easy for us veggies who eat eggs and dairy. If you order something that comes with bacon/sausage on the side, they'll leave it off and give you fruit or something instead. Buffets are usually okay, though sometimes lacking in protein; we also ate at Biergarten and I had plenty of food. Not as much to choose from as Boma, and there's meat lurking in things like the potato salad, but I wasn't hungry when I left.

AK is the hardest park to eat in; the Tusker House has a veggie sandwich. Otherwise, you can order kids' meals with mac-n-cheese, which are fine. I didn't have the sandwich because I'd heard it isn't as good as it used to be.

I have done WDW as a vegetarian for over 10 years and yes there are more choices now, but a lot of them are salads or sandwiches.

Some things I just got a couple weeks ago that are good:

Tony's has a good veggie pasta dish with a breadstick.

Lighthouse sandwich at Columbia Harbor House.

Wet burrito without meat at the Cantina in Mexico.

Tangerrine Cafe's vegetarian platter (I don't like tabouleh so I order extra lentils in it's place.)

Starring Rolls vegie pita at MGM was good and came with chips or fruit.

Pop Century's vegie lo mein is good.

Crystal Palace and Trail's End buffets had plenty of vegetables, mashed potatoes, salad stuff, etc. and were great answering my questions on ingredients.

Some things I got that were not so good:

I had Mama Melroses's tomato pizza but it was very dry.

At Tusker House in AK they now have a vegie pita that sucked, it had a few cold vegetables with italian dressing and a mit of feta crumbled on it. There old vegie choices used to be better. The pita at Starring rolls was way better.

Restaurantosaurus in AK has a salad with mandarin oranges that you can order without chicken but it had to many weird leafy things and didn't taste very good.

The Land's vegie sandwich was not that great and didn't come with anything. The bread was good but the overall thing wasn't that filling. I wish they still had pasta/potato choices. The Sandwich at Backlot was better.

Hope this helps.

I'm not a vegetarian, but the vegetarian platter at the Tangierine Cafe in Morocco is on my must have list every time.

See if your library has "Vegetarian WDW and Greater Orlando" by Shumaker and Saffel. I am a full on veggie and this book has been great for planning my meals. One I am most looking forward to is the Liberty Square Potato and Produce Wagon. A baked potato with sour cream and chives!-YUM :woohoo:

If you want to have a great meal, even if it is vegan, go to Jiko. The head chef, so I hear, is vegetarian, so....Actually, I did try the tofu, and it is extremely good, considering I am a carnivore!
