I thought it might be nice to have an idea who lives close to each other so we can tell each other about smaller local events.

Erica and I live in Southern Kentucky, Bowling Green. We have a local race about once a month during the spring, summer and fall. Our races are small except for the Oct 10K Classic.

The 10K draws about 3 to 4 thousand for the tour of small town, old world Kentucky. The nice thing about it is the drawing for prize money, for all who finish. They draw for $1000, $2000, $3000, $5000 and $10,000. The prize money is good to $1000 for first male and $1000 for first female but we get several world class Kenyan runners who take that.

We have a half marathon on March 31st, and I'm working on them to have a walker class in it so walkers can compete for awards.

Anyone else wanna share their local stuff?

Dave and Erica:hippie:

Hi Dave!

I'm just west of Baltimore, MD. I'm training for a half marathon in May in Frederick, MD, then working on the Goofy challenge (first one!). I have been a runner most of my life, but not competitively so I'm not really up on the local races yet. I enjoy your posts both here and on runnersworld.

Thanks!
Dan.

I am considered Central Florida though we live on the coast....I don't think anyone is near me.

But in case anyone is vacationing in this area for Thanksgiving...we have the Space Coast full and half marathon--Beautiful course though they lap you twice for the full.

I've used it as a training day just to experience race day conditions while learning to control pace during a race. Typically it is held the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

I'm in the North Hills suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. There's a great event on March 31st called 'Just a Short Run'. It was just featured in the latest edition of Runners' World magazine for "Best Schwag" because they give a nice pair of tech running shorts instead of a t-shirt. There's a 5K, 1/2 marathon, and 30K, and the course is in North Park which is a really pretty place to run.
The race benefits the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
Cool idea for a thread--thanks!:)

Dan that was a very nice thing to say, thank you. Good luck with your training for that awesome Goofy, it will be our first also. What have we got ourselves in for!!!

Dave:)

southern california here, about 20 minutes from Dland.

There are many events to chose from, the good weather helps. Many schools and small organizations are starting events as fundraisers and then there are many med-large size events to participate in as well. LA Marathon to the small city race, take your pick. I like to look at a site, raceplace.com, they have all the events by county and type of activity. Last Sun I did the Pacific Shoreline, beautiful, flat course, right along the ocean, ahhhhhh. My shins/calves hurt the entire way, but thats another issue which I am trying to figure out.
I signed up for the DLand 1/2 in Sept....

stay warm everyone.

Another Southern Californian here! I live in Simi Valley which is about an hour away from DL...depending on traffic. It's a nice city to live in. A couple of years ago, we were the 4th safest city in the nation based upon our population. For that reason alone, my DW and I decided to raise our family here. We also have the Ronald Reagan Library here, too. It's really cool to visit...if you're in the area.

I've been into cycling for a good 22 years. Just like Bahamamomma1, I'll check out www.raceplace.com for local races in addition to www.competitor.com, www.trifind.net, and www.socalcycling.com for other races. My biggest races this year will be the DL 1/2 Marathon followed by LA Triathlon the week after then the Malibu Triathlon the week after that. I'll probably kill myself doing them but at least I'll have fun along the way...

See you around!

I am located in the Southeastern section of Pennsylvania about 30 miles west of Philadelphia. Great idea for a thread - maybe some locals will get together for some runs. My next event is this crazy trail race on February 25th called the Ugly Mudder. The race is on a tough trail and will be held in any weather - as long as you can get there it will be run. I also do many other races ranging from 5 Ks to Marathons throughout the region. I plan on doing the WDW marathon for the third strait year come January 2008 (can't get into the Goofy like this year but I will be back in 2009).

Martinez (Augusta) Georgia here.

The beautiful Lake Tahoe, NV.

There is the Lake Tahoe Marathon(13 miles from here), and The Tahoe Rim Trail 50K/50M/100M(13 miles from here).

I am Race Director for Lake of the Sky Trail Run(34 miles) on the Tahoe Rim Trail a few miles from where we live.

I live in Union City, GA which is a few miles south of Atlanta.

Atlanta is the home of the Peachtree Road Race held July 4th

The ING 1/2 and Full Marathon will be held here for the first time in March.

NorthEastern NJ here......Saddle Brook to be exact. About 15 minutes from NYC.

Lots of local races here. I am currently training for the Long Branch Half Marathon, which is held at the Jersey Shore in April.

I live outside Boston MA. We have a little-known race here in April called the Boston Marathon ( ). It comes right through the town I live in and the whole route is closed down most of the day.

I only started running races over the past couple of years and I don't know all the ones around. Anyone else in the area know of some?

Thanks for suggesting the thread!

Hi

Hi All,
South Florida here - Ft Myers to be exact. Just really started running outdoors last year so am not up on many local races although I did join the local track club. Actually I am running my first 5K next week in the Edison Festival of Lights, a big event down here celebrating Thomas Edison. His winter home was here as well as Henry Ford's.

I plan on running the 5K & 10K at Disney next October and the Marathon in January. I'll fill in a few races along the way. Right now I am battling IT band issues which kind of hampers training.

I was thinking about some of you Northerners yesterday. I waited until around 10:00 a.m. to run because I wanted it to warm up to at least 65 degrees. Just bought my first long sleeve running shirt a few weeks ago but have only had to wear it once.

enjoy,
Duane

Hello- florida here :)

We live on the West coast just south of Tampa, in Bradenton.

In one week we are doing the Gasparilla 1/2 in Tampa. There are so many races around here it is seriously hard to keep up!!

In March we are doing the Clearwater, Bay to Bay 12K. Also in March I am doing the 5K at Epcot (with a friend who just started running again). Being and hour and 15 min from Disney I am kind of addicted to their races, :cheer2: although DH would like to find some that are not Disney related also!!!

Hey Another Pittsburgher!!! I grew up in Pittsburgh, went to Pitt, and my mother-in-law still lives on the North Side. I saw the "Just a Short Run" in Runner's World, and was thinking of coming back to the Burgh to run it. North Park was one of my favorite parks in Pittsburgh - besides Kennywood Park.

I'm currently in Rochester, NY.

We spent half of our honeymoon in Lake Tahoe (and the other half in Yosemite NP). You live in one beautiful area. I'd love to come back sometime.

Philly, PA here.

Anybody looking for a good training run should come to Philly for the Broad Street Run. It's a 10-miler, straight down Broad Street from start to finish (well, this are two small turns, just to get you around City Hall). The course is flat, slightly downhill.

The race is always held the 1st Sunday in May (kills me because I can't do the Minnie or the Flying Pig). If you come, there's a two day Expo at Lincoln Financial Field (Home of the Eagles) on Friday and Saturday. Stop by and say I. I'm the Expo Director.

Terri - too bad it's during Minnie weekend! My best friend lives in Glenolden. She & her finace run - that would have been fun to do with them!

I am in Nashua, NH. :wave2:
