Okay (gulp), as hard as this is to say, my family is discussing going somewhere in Florida other than WDW the week between Xmas and New Years :rotfl2:

So does anyone have another website to lead me towards??? The Dis is fabulous for WDW but I am looking at other locations so I am looking for another forum that would relate to other parts of Florida.

Thanks for any help!

What are you interested in?

A beach, history?

Lots of Floridians on here might be able to help you. :).

Not sure of another forum, but SW Florida is usually nice and also the Keys, but I gotta tell ya, my folk live in Naples and they just got power/water etc on 2 days ago. I know it will be 2 months before you are traveling...so all should be fine, but a LOT of the lush vegitation was destroyed. We like it there in the winter months as it is usually 10 degrees warmer than up in Orlando. We did SeaWorld/ Kennedy Space Center one year, and loved it. It was jammed, keep in mind all the locals are visiting too!
Anyway, hopefully someone out ther will have a forum suggestion!

Lisa - We definitely want a beach area. My DS (12), my DM, and I will be traveling.

I just found out that my office will be closed that week so our first thought was FLORIDA :cool1: We originally thought of WDW but the crowds are so bad that week that we are considering going somewhere else. Preferably further south for warmer temperatures.

We just don't know where the best place to start looking would be.

Any help on where to start searching would be fantastic!

www.visitflorida.com check out this site. it may help

also there is a visitors section on www.myflorida.com
my guess is you want something in the south where it will be warmer. the down side to that is they have alot of damage from the hurricanes. good luck finding something. hope these sites help

Well, I think our area is pretty nice.. :sunny:

http://www.destin-ation.com/destin.htm

We have some of the whitest beaches around. You can also do a search for Destin FL; I think there are some threads on the Dis about things to do. Have fun! :)

Oh, and we have a Disney Character Outlet. :teeth:

You're kidding right? Half the houses in Marathon and virtually all of them in Key West had 4 feet of water in them. There is garbage lining every street and more coming out everyday. Add the fact that Dade and Broward supposedly got hit worse than us (I'm not sure) and you have an area that won't be 'normal' for a year...Maybe just in time for the heart of next years hurricane season.

I'd say the Tampa Bay area or maybe the Panhandle are your best bets.

St. Pete Beach or Treasure Island come to mind. I love the beach area over there. Great food, nice quiet beaches that time of year.

well it depends on how far you want to go. Northwest FL (Pensacola) is nice, the have an AWESOME Naval Air museum (it's free) & it's just a few miles to Pensacola Beach.
There's Destin - great shopping(outlet & regular) -it's about 1 1/2 from Pensacola.
There;s Perdido Key which is all beach-not much else to do there unless you drive over to oulets in AL.

Then there's the capital - Tallahassee there's tons to do there.
Jacksonville is nice - great science museum & zoo there.

YOu could always do one of the other theme parks down south - Bush Gardens or somthiing like that.

Just type the city name in the keyword & it'll pull up the info on the city. Go by AAA & they'll have brochures--or a huge book on FL---that'll give you tons of info to start with, then when you narrow down your choices we can help you decide where to go.

It really depends on what you like to do. it will be quite chilly that time of year so the further south you go, the better!

Miami has so much to offer, It's a facinating city, you can even incorporate a short cruise. There are a lot of museums, great restaurants, segway city tours, boat rides, the Metro Zoo & the Sea Aquarium & more.

SW FL is beautiful The Hyatt in Bonita Springs is a wonderful family type hotel with so much to offer. I have stayed there with my family even though I only live 20 minutes away. It's not far from Naples, Sanibel or Fort Myers where there is also lots to do & see.

There is also Sanibel Island if you like nature and just relaxing on the beach.
The Sanible Harbor resort is a nice family resort to stay at just off island.

If you want to go to a beach, don't go to the Keys. The beaches aren't anything spectacular, especially when you have Anna Maria Island, Sanibel Island, Sarasota, and Clearwater Beach on the Southwest coast and Destin on the Gulf coast. IMHO, the Gulf beaches are prettier and cleaner.
