Where Else Do You Vacation?

We love Disney, but I am looking for other good vacations for the family. I'm thinking outside of Florida. What other great vacations do the members here take?

My kids are 6 and 7. We will be visiting Mount Vernon, Williamsburg and Jamestown in Virginia next summer and likely Pennsylvania. I love Disney, but I'm ready to take the kids around the country. Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyonon are likely all in the next couple years.

Any ideas for an "On Golden Pond" like vacation? Cabin on a wooded lake in the middle of nowhere?

Thanks.

One of the most awe inspiring vacations I went on was to Yellowstone National Park. You'll see things there rarely found anywhere else. Don't just think Old Faithful, there are many geysers, just as beautiful & spectacular.

You can easily spend a week in the park, seeing things from mud pots and colorful hot springs to bison, bears, moose & if you're lucky, wolves.

The view of Yellowstone Falls from Artists Point is a sight to behold. You can spend some time in Cody, Wyoming, take a drive to the Grand Tetons, even spend a week there.

I don't have children but I think kids would enjoy all of the unique geothermal features there. I suggest doing some research first so that when you are there you'll make the most of your time. There really is a lot to see and it's spread out over a large area.

If you go to NPS.gov, that will give you a good start. I can't say enough about what a wonderful, beautiful, interesting place this is. Wherever you go, hope you have a great time.

We took our daughters (7 & 9) to Williamsburg this past summer and they loved it. We stayed in Colonial Williamsburg and mixed in Busch Gardens and the water park there to keep them entertained. Then we spent a couple of days at Virginai Beach before driving home. Since they enjoyed the trip so much we are planning on doing Washington, DC next year.

Grand Canyon...ahhh truly one of the "wonders" of the world to see :thumbsup2 You will love that with your family for sure!!! :goodvibes

also:
Las Vegas
Virginia Beach
Myrtle Beach
all 6 New England States
New York City

And when they get older
EUROPE

I go to Chicago a lot. I was born there; my family is originally from Chicago and most of them are still in the area. I was there the first week of August to visit and to see the King Tut exhibit at the Field Museum.

I really would like to get back to Washington D.C. and London, England. Haven't been to either in 13 and 19 years, respectively.

My new obsession is to go to Mexico to see the Mayan ruins. I also want to
go to Hollywood merely to see Duran Duran and David Bowie's stars on the Walk of Fame.

And someday...mark my words...I WILL get to Egypt.

Sorry, I TOTALLY disagree. I thought Colonial Williamsburg was the lamest place I've ever been. It is way over priced and the food felt like it was fresh from the freezer to the microwave.

I like Las Vegas, Key West (I know you said, not Fl, but it is not like the rest of Fl in my opinion), Myrtle Beach and in the summer, Nantucket, MA.

My dream is to go to Egypt, on an archaeological tour. Was definitly shooting for next year but other things came up. :sad1: Have a feeling I'll never get there.

We go to a fishing lodge in Canada every summer. For the last 37 years of my life. I'm 41. We rent a cabin with housekeeping . Breakfast and dinner included. Ice cold lake water, no tv, no phones, no cell reception, no shopping, public toilets and showers, saggy mattresses, no fish to be caught, bugs the size of quarters that bite. All this for $2000. (for me, DH and DS) Lets see.... whats a week in Disney these days?

We have been to ME, VT, NH, MA, NY, PA, Washington DC, VA, FL, Italy, Germany, Ireland.

I have been to Spain and Portugal as well, but DH has not.

We kind of go where the spirit moves us. I would like to do a bit more of the West...the Grand Canyon, CA, the Pacific Northwest...but my parents are aging, so I think I need to stay a bit closer to home for the next few years.

There are other places to vacation? lol

Living in New England we do lots of short weekends all over, plus in Montreal and Toronto.

We also vacation in Florida...Ft Lauderdale mostly.

Now that I am moving to FL most of my vacations will be coming up to New England to see friends, and a trip to California in April to see family. My goal is to go to Tokoyo and all over Europe.

I've done the western adventure twice thus far - Iowa (Amana Colonies), South Dakota (Mitchell for the Corn Palace; Wall Drug, the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Rapid City), Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, Colorado Springs and Durango & Silverton areas of Colorodo (beautiful!), Kansas (okay snoozer, but...) St. Louis (grandma) then home to Pennsylvania. Learned a lot, saw a ton of stuff and plan on taking my kids when they're older!

When my girls were younger, we did a lot of road trips -- Williamsburg, Hershey Park/Amish Country, NYC/Six Flags, Vermont/Montreal, Niagara Falls/Toronto, Southern Maine. Another great family trip we took was the cruise to Bermuda out of Boston. We went with 4 other families and had a blast! We're thinking of doing it again next summer with my family. :thumbsup2

I live in California, so we have vacationed alot in Florida, Mexico, Vegas, Arizona, The caribbean, NYC, Hawaii (took a cruise and also just did oahu). I really want to get back to Italy, it has been more then 10 years. And I think I would like to try more cruises but not the Disney kind. I need a casino LOL. We like a variety of stuff. My son said not to forget our trip of North Carolina. OMG we hated the outer banks. We left early.I also love New Orleans and the south, I just havent taken my kids. I am going there for Superbowl weekend. I can't wait.

We vacation wherever Drum Corps is during the summer. This past year we were in Toledo, San Antonio, Atlanta, Chicago, and Madison, Wisconsin.

In 2007, I will be attending the finals at the ROSE BOWL in Pasadena and then on to DCA and DL for a few days.

I've never been, but what might be interesting is the Bay of Fundy/Hopewell Rocks area where, when the tide goes out you can walk on the ocean floor.

We have a 4yo and a 6yo. We've done Hawaii and the Caribbean. We live in CA so we've been all over here. This summer we are doing Italy, Austria, Germany, and France. We plan on doing what we call the "American History" tour (DC, and all the surrounding all the way through to NY) when our oldest is going into 3rd grade and starts focusing on that in school. We plan on doing Yellowstone and Wyoming, when the kids are old enough for more outdoor sports. Also on our list Costa Rica, Alaska, the Pacific Northwest (up through Oregon, Washington) and Banff area in Canada.

Europe is my very favorite place to visit (I had posted our photos a few days ago from our September trip). I'm especially addicted to Paris!

Usually Hawaii

I've also been to:
-Niagara Falls
-Canada
-Other cities in Florida (Pensacola, St. Augustine, Panama City)
-South Padre Island
-Galveston
-Paris, France

I intend to go to:
-Australia
-London
-Italy

We really love to travel. I have been to:

Japan
China
Hong Kong
Taiwan
Thailand
Malaysia
Philippines

As a family we have been to:

Grand Canyon
Big Bend National Park
Santa Fe
London, UK

This coming summer we intend to go to Yellowstone. We've been dreaming about this for years! We cannot wait.

As for this Thanksgiving, I'm trying to use my feminine wiles to get my DH to agree to Disney!!! hee hee! :teeth:
