The title says it all. As a DVC owner I felt that I had to use my DVC to get "money worth". So for years we kept going back to WDW and our DVC. It was great and we are so comfortable with the ease of a WDW holiday.

Now that we don't go to WDW we have started to see what I call IRL holiday. In just a few days we leave for Egypt.

Where else do you go for holiday? Do you use your points for said holiday?

Odd years we get APs or PAPs and do 2-3 shorter WDW trips...with our points. Even years we do 4-5 nights at one of the DVC beach resorts with our points (HHI a few years ago, VB in '12 and HHI this year). We tack on something to that beach trip...the first HHI trip we added on 3 nights at OKW and just did SeaWorld...in 2012 we added on 2 nights at US Hard Rock Hotel to see the Harry Potter world. We haven't planned any add-on for this year's HHI trip, but DH mentioned doing Charleston a few nights. We also sprinkle in cruising which has been Carnival (except one Disney cruise...our 1st cruise in 2007). I am interested in trying out Royal Caribbean and am looking for this year sometime. We do 2-3 vacations a year...last year we added on a 4th for just DH and I (F&W for 3 nights) as it was our 40th birthdays. We have been doing this since 2006 when we bought our 1st DVC contract...been going to WDW since 2003 and doing beach trips since the kids were born (all 3 are in HS now).

Before our first timeshare, we did lots of discount cruises through online auction sites visiting the Holy Lands, Antarctica, Iberean Peninsula, Northern Capitals, etc. We hit all seven continents in a space of a few short years prior to 9/11 which seemed to change 'everything' relative to our travel style.

Since timeshare, we now visit mostly timeshare. Last year we spent two weeks in South Africa on RCI exchange (not using DVC). We do some travel to chase our hobbies: horsemanship for me; off-roading for my DH. Often these, too, will incorporate timeshare stays:the Wyndham in Pagosa Springs, CO, for the Parelli Summit; the Worldmark in Big Bear, CA, for a gathering of Toyota FJ Cruiser enthusiasts; etc. We are on a long pursuit to stay at every Worldmark and to help reach that silly goal we do road trips across the western US using Worldmark properties (San Diego to Vancouver, Canada and back; San Diego through Zion NP, Yellowstone NP, and Rocky Mountain NP, etc). We've stayed at more than 40 so far ... but the list ahead of us remains long! ;)

Our use of DVC may be different than most as we typically center the stay around a conference or event. Last month we were at BWV for our annual IBM conference and we return in May for the Everest Expedition Challenge Run. We used DVC points last year to visit New York City for a major US parade.

We are off next week to Costa Rica for a horsemanship clinic with Honza Bláha. Video link of his work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHQczRbBHxI

Have a great time in Egypt. Hope you find the 'IRL' moments you are looking for with your dear family.

We take a non-DVC trip every year to the beach (usually Treasure Island) or mountains (North GA, NC, or SC).

Beach: Hawaii, Aruba
Ski: CO, UT
International: N./S. Asia, New Zealand

We rent our DVC points to fund our trip. Now in the process of buying a Marriott timeshare.

We always go to the beach. I grew up going to Ocean City (MD) every year so that's what we used to do. Now my brother owns a beach house 15 mins away from Bethany Beach in DE so we go there instead. With DVC, we alternate years between WDW and HHI. Last year we also went to the Outer Banks in NC. Our goal is to eventually own a beach home.

My wife has told me about a myth of "other places". I have corrected her many times that indeed it is just a myth. Sadly people continue to believe the myth "other places".

We travel to many places including Colorado, the Caribbean, Colorado the western national parks, Maine, Canada, Virginia, DC, the Carolinas, and Europe. Our DVC is more like our getaway vacations, rather than our big vacations.

With our points (almost 14 yrs. of owning)? - we have taken 5 DCL cruises (combination of points and cash - always two cabins, last cruise three cabins) - best was the 11 N. Med. cruise.

We also went to Cancun (The Royal Sands Resort (?))

(Are we putting in Vero & HH? if so - yes to both)

Since we own at VB and HHI we do go there.

We enjoying cruising, this year the two main cruises will be the West Bound Panama Canal cruise on DCL, and a Princess cruise from Greece through the Eastern Mediterranean then to Israel, Egypt and Italy.

We also enjoy going to US National Parks, with Death Valley and Joshua Tree on the list this year!

We are annual pass holders at Dollywood, we love it, and the Great Smoky Mountain NP!

In our younger years we saw much of the U.S., Europe, and a few islands around the globe. We loved it, and relish our memories of those trips.

In our later years, we find that WDW is our laughing place. Not that we aren't interested in going to other places, but we'd rather just go back to WDW.

Our vacation time is pretty limited, maybe when we retire we'll be more interested in again touring places that require more than a few days at a time.
Or maybe we'll just have enough points to spend more time at WDW with our grandchildren.:earsboy:

Every Thanksgiving we go to Disney'd Hilton Head Resort, for which we use our points. In the summer, we enjoy going someplace like Yellowstonem(we've gone 3 times) and this year we're going to Alaska. No points used for the summertime trips.

This year is typical - in addition to 3 WDW trips (1 down, 2 to go ;)) we are lucky enough to be visiting the following:

February; Majorca, Spain
April; Cologne, Germany
May; Austrian cities touring
October; Lake Garda, Italy
December; Germany

We are in the UK so the European trips are simple. Loving retirement and accept that we are very fortunate to be able to afford to do this. There will come a time when we won't want/be able to travel so much, so making the most of it while we can :).

Interesting reading others' responses. I see that cruising is quite popular and we are taking our first ocean-going one in the summer when we go on the Disney Dream with our family. Last year we did a river cruise along the Danube.
