Hi everyone - I've been poking around on the boards for a couple of days and can't figure out where the best place to post my question is. Looks like we'll be planning our first trip in either February 2010 or May 2010.

My main question right now is what is the best way to book our trip? I'm looking for pros and cons of going through WDW or piecing it together (flight, resort, etc.) ourselves to try and save money. How far in advance do I need to have our trip booked?

Also, any suggestions for books to buy for help in planning?

Thanks so much!

Welcome!:flower3:

You can try a lot of different boards such as Resorts, Transportation, Theme Parks, Attractions, & Strategies. Do you have an idea of what resort you want to stay at? Are you going with or without kids?

Many people use many different methods to book their trips. I for one like to book through WDW, but any transportation I book separately. But I also like to book the DDP. However many DISers feel they can save money by doing their meals separately, especially w/ the new pricing for 2010.

Any questions you have just post & everyone is really great about answering.

After playing around with many of the combos, I found the best deal by booking the room/tickets/ddp thru WDW, and booking airfare on my own. We are doing the free DDP, and were lucky enough to get a room upgrade from the value resorts to a deluxe villa!:woohoo:

Good luck, I know its overwhelming! our trip this fall is the first one i've planned as well!

Welcome to the Dis:goodvibes

ITA, we always have better luck booking our airfare and using Disney for the room/tickets and dining.

Each time I have had AAA price out our vacation they never give me what I want and it comes back slightly higher:confused3

thanks everyone for the information - this truly is overwhelming - this will be our first trip and there is just so much information out there and so many choices - i think we might just go through WDW just to make it easy on ourselves and maybe next trip I'll be adventurous and shop around for a better price.

I have never gotten a great deal on transportation going through Disney, but I know people who have and some folks find it easier. My advice is to start early and try different options. Transportation is often cheaper booked separately. If you are going to rent a car. Never stop getting quotes. YOu can cancel old quotes if you get a cheaper price and use mousesavers.com
