Where do you stand. Not a debate.

Very interesting reading!!

Death penalty: Against, absolutely.

Abortion: For - if the fetus cannot survive outside the womb, if it can it should not have it's life ended.

Partial-birth: Don't have enough info to decide.

Affirmative Action: For - if everyone is honest, they will admit they know many people who would never hire minorities, unless required.

Legalizing Drugs: For - marijuana

Income Redistribution: Never heard of it! If someone could explain, perhaps I could make an informed choice.

Welfare: For - I know many elderly and single mothers who would not survive without it.

Censoring: Against

War in Iraq: Against, from the beginning

Separation of Church/State: For, however, I do not feel we need to destroy all the religious images in our public bldgs. I do not believe, but I am not offended by those who do, and I do not feel my freedoms have been restricted by these images.

Bilingual Education: For, I feel the more education, the better. If many people in our society speak another language, it can only improve our mutual understanding for all to get more education. If that means teaching in their own language, so be it.
And, I am for free higher education for all.

Illegal immigration: A thorny problem. On the one hand, I am for upholding the law, on the other we cannot hide from the fact that many are here. We cannot ignore indigent peoples, be they legal or illegal. So, I guess I'm saying we are obligated to care for them.

Immigrants for Pres: My gut says no, but I really can't come up with a good reason!

Animal rights: For, against any kind of animal testing. However, I do eat meat, so I guess that makes me somewhat of a hypocrite! And, once the cow is killed for the steak, I see nothing wrong with using the hide for leather. I know, I know, inconsistent, but there you have it.

Gay marriage: For - no qualifiers

Gay adoption: For - no qualifiers

Environment: For - clean water, air, protection of public lands, period

Health Care: For free health care for all. I do not mind waiting for non-emergency surgery to have it.

Gun control: For it.

Death Penalty: Against

Abortion: Support right to choose.

Partial Birth Abortion: I think this is a political issue, I don't believe that it is a widely used method, reserved for late-term abortions when either the mother's health is at risk or there are issues with the child. I think that by trying to make a blanket law there will be added issues to people already in crisis.

Affirmative Action for Women and Minorities: Against except for private industry.

Drug Legalization: For depending on the drug.

Income Redistribution: Against.

Welfare: Against except for many of the disabled or to help others temporarily on a case by case basis. I would support more emphasis on education and programs that work with welfare children so they are less likely to become welfare adults.

Censoring public airwaves/tv: Against within reason.

The War in Iraq: Against.

Church & State: Keep the entities separate.

Bilingual Ed.: For but with guidelines, should be limited to a certain time limit. TX seems to be doing okay with this. ESL is mainstreamed for the most part and expected to catch up. Most classes should be in English

Illegal Immigration: Against.

Immigrants running for president: No opinion.

Animal Rights: For within reason, without some animal testing there would be very few new meds.

Gay marriage: For.

Gay adoption: For.

The Environment: There are too many extremists.

Health Care: Against socialized medicine.

Gun Control: For again within reason.

copied from planogirl to save time

Death Penalty : Mostly for.

Abortion : Pro-choice.

Partial Birth Abortion : See above.

Affirmative Action for Women and Minorities : No.

Drug Legalization : Yes.

Income Redistribution : To be perfectly honest, I'm not 100% certain what this is supposed to be. But my guess is I'd be against it.

Welfare : I'd like to see less Corporate welfare, and personal welfare programs with some kind of effort to help a person be able to earn enough to support themselves and their family.

Censoring public airwaves/tv : Against, within reason.

The War in Iraq : Against.

Church & State : Full seperation.

Bilingual Ed. :Learning a second language should be pushed more, but I'm against bilingual ed.

Illegal Immigration : We need better border security. I think we need to stop giving welfare benefits to illegals. Agreed, agreed.

Immigrants running for president : Hm. Not sure. Something about it makes me markedly uncomfortable, I'm not sure why.

Animal Rights : I'm certainly against animal cruelty for cruelty's sake, but I'm on the fence with medical testing.

Gay marriage : Absolutely for.

Gay adoption : Absolutely for.

The Environment : Agreed, we should be doing more. Saw a very interesting (and disheartening) segment on recycling on Penn & Teller's Bullsh*t. Basically, it concluded that recycling makes us all feel good, but doesn't really work.

Health Care : something should be done to make public healthcare affordable to everyone. Agreed.

Interesting thread!

Are you familiar with the old Bill Hicks routine about a similar? "Either you respect the life of all humans, of ALL AGES, or you shut the **** up." (paraphrased) I'm not telling you to "shut the **** up," I'm just saying that the belief that a child's life is more valuable than any other man's is insulting.

To compare a helpless human being up against a stronger, larger adult is no comparison at all. I've always said that this world would be a better place if NO ONE hit or hurt someone smaller than themselves. It's hardly insulting, it's a fact.

Very interesting thread

ok then

DEATH PENALTY: yes dependng on the crime and the evidence especially for those that hurt children

ABORTION: pro choice but personally could not do and have not done

PARITAL BIRTH ABORTIONS: politcal see above

AFFIRM ACTION: no

Drugs: depends on the drug

INCOME: no

WELFARE: yes

CENSORING: no

WAR IN IRAQ: against

CHURCH AND STATE: seperated

BILINGUAL ED: no

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: no

IMMIGRANTS FOR PRESIDENT: no we souldnt make a law for Arnold

ANIMAL TESTING: no

GAY MARRIAGE: yes

GAY ADOPTION: YES

ENVIRONMENT: we need to do more

HEALTHCARE: I dont knwo what to do but whats happening now is WRONG!!

GUN CONTROL: for it

Income Redistribution - In my words, which won't be the best. Do you believe in the Robin Hood theory - Robbing the rich to pay the poor?

I have to break up this thread to point out that except for the abortion stuff, this has really stuck to its original purpose! I expected it to turn into a huge mudslinger with all the possibilities of one brewing, but congrats to all who have not allowed it to degenerate! Even the abortion debate has remained fairly calm. Congrats!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Something I realized I skipped over, gun control:

I am against more new laws. I believe Americans have the right to bear arms, no question in my mind. I don't believe they belong in the hands of convicted criminals, those with restraining orders against them, or the mentally ill*, and I am 100% for background checks and waiting periods. I also believe that weapons need to be used responsibly and there needs to be harsh punishment for the misuse of them. What is necessary is the strict enforcement of the laws we already have in place, not more laws!

Edited to add * people with rather severe or dangerous mental illnesses, not mild depression.

In no particular order...

Death Penalty : I am not for it. But in extreme grusome cases, where we are 100% positive that the person is guilty...maybe?!

Abortion : Completely Against It!

Partial Birth Abortion : Against it

Affirmative Action for Women and Minorities : I am back and forth on this. I feel like there is a disadvantage for some, but who wants to get hired based on race, sex, ect..

Drug Legalization : Nope

Income Redistribution : No.

Welfare : I am not opposed as long as they give solutions for people and make it a limited time that people can be on it. In other words, they must get education, career placement, and job training in a feild. In 3 years they must be off and on their way to supporting themselves.

Censoring public airwaves/tv : I like how they do it now and I like the fact that I can censor my own house.

The War in Iraq : Yes & No. I'm glad Saddam is gone. I think there is a lot more good happening there than our media reports (according to 3 soldiers I know who are there). I do not however, feel our people should be dying to help build another country up. That bothers me. I only hope some good will come of it.

I completely agree with this!

Church & State : Against...they need to be seperate in every measure.

Bilingual Ed. : I feel like American English should be taught in the schools and none of this Ebonics that came out earlier. However, I also feel that every elementry school should offer immersion classes for English speaking childern. I think learning a language this young is great oppertunity that should be offered to every child.

Illegal Immigration : We need better border security.

Immigrants running for president : Absolutely, as long as they came here legal and have become citizens, I see no reason why ANY immigrant to this country can't be a good president

Animal Rights : Yes and No. I don't like killing animals for sport or glamour; esp. when synthetic materials are available. However, I do think humans are omnivores and higher in the food chain. So again, yes and no.

YUP!

Gay marriage : Absolutely. Why are we trying to deny loving couples the right to form stable families?

Agree

Gay adoption : Yes. I'd rather see children a little confused as to why they have two mommies or two daddies and asking questions, then lying dead in a basement because social services chose to keep them with an abusive, neglecting straight couple.

Agree

The Environment : We should be doing more. I recycle and litter annoys me. I think public awareness and looking for more effective fuel sources is key here. And bringing down the cost of hybrid cars.

Agree!

Health Care : something should be done to make public healthcare affordable to everyone. I don't think the rich should have to pay and the poor not. I think if ONE thing should be subsidized by the government, the health of her people should be it. There are surely government studies and programs that could be cut to make way for this. I'd like to see welfare limited but public healthcare for everyone.

I agree!

Euthansasia - Against it!
