Where do you shop airfare?

You can try any number of places like Expedia, Tavelocity, Orbitz or I like to try each airlines website, good luck!

Ding is a Southwest airlines program. You download it from their website and it alerts you to fare specials. Right now the specials are running through 10/17/05, I think it is.

Orbitz for fare searching, then the airline websites (United, American) to see if they beat the lowest fare. I also use Spirit Airlines because they fly out of O'Hare (Chicago).

I tend to fly Southwest frequently, because I live in a hub and they have a terrific change/cancellation policy! No penalty for cancelling or changing, non-refundable fares are credited to your SWA account and may be used within 12 months from the original booking date. The cost for changes is the difference between the original cost and the new cost--no additional fees.

Since my plans can be scuttled in the blink of an eye, that's an important feature!

I won't book with any organization that charges too much for changes/cancellations or does not permit changes. Too many things can occur in life to require an adjustment of the journey! :)

This handy tool allows me to input the info once and click on a button for each of the travel sites (expedia, travelocity and orbitz) as well as the airline sites.

itasoftware is a good site to search for fares but you cant book you reservations on the site you need to use a travel agents .Also fares can change quickly and a price you were given might not be available when you go to book . try sidestep

I have always found the best prices on Orbitz, but they do not usually offer tickets form the the smaller airlines which can be much cheaper. Next year we are planning on using Allegiant, they only fly into Sanford/Orlando but two tickets + an economy car for the week is over $100 cheaper than flying into Orlando Intl. and no car. I have heard good things about Southwest also, but they do not fly out of my home town. I would drive 2 hours to the closest Southwest airport if the price was right though.

I too find Orbitz to be the cheapest, BUT get their price then go to the lowest priced airline's own website - usually about $10 cheaper and no per ticket fees.

Good luck!

We've just found www.travelzoo.com, seems like they do a good job of finding the real specials out there. We got those $16 fares this September through them.

YES! I read about that - great for you!

I also used travel zoo for a discount on a room at the Atlantis in the Bahamas. I was never able to find a discount for this place. Saved about $88.

I typically search the airline sites directly for airfare, including the smaller airlines that fly in and out of my airport. In mid July, I booked our Nov/Dec trip from Maui to Orlando on United. I have been trying to build up my miles on United since Feb. and so last month I was able to book 3 saver award seats and I purchased 1 ticket for DH at $797, which I thought was reasonable for the distance we are traveling and I was able to get his seat with our 3 "free" seats. A few days ago I got an Orbitz e-mail that the fares were down and so I checked...the fare on DH's ticket went down to $556.20. I called United and was able to get a $241.27 flight voucher/coupon sent to me :cool1: ....so, if I deduct the coupon I can use on a future trip and add in some of the ticket fees and other cost I paid to get the 3 saver seats my total cost for 4 tickets from Maui to Orlando is $1005. So, my advice is to plan ahead if you can and keep your eyes out for any specials or freebies :flower: Good luck.

We just booked our flight through www.airtran.com We got tickets for $108 round trip per person. Woohoo! There is no way we could drive from Michigan to Florida for those prices plus it gave us extra days in Disney.

I use Kayak to perform initial searches for airfare. It automatically searches more than 100 travel sites to find the lowest fares. It also searches the major airline's sites (but not SW).

For me, Kayak eliminates the need to check a bunch of travel sites individually. I'd recommend taking a look at it to see if it works for you.
