I have a problem and would like to see if anyone can share with me your experience.

We are going on the Wonder in March and it is still cold in Canada. How should we handle the thick winter coats after being dropped off at the airport?

We have thought of leaving them with our friend who is taking us to the airport. But we have to change the plane in Chicago and we are afraid we have to go outside to get on the plane in Chicago. If yes, then we may need the coats. We can't afford letting the kids catch a cold!

WHat should we do with the coats? Carry them all the way with us?

You won't have to go outside at the Chicago airport.

Fortunately, I traveled with friends who live in Florida and drove to the port. I was able to leave my coat in their car for the week. I would suggest just bringing them and storing them in an empty suitcase on the ship. You will want them when you return home when you WILL have to go outside the airport.

If we don't have to go outside in Chicago, then it would be great and would bring only one coat for DH with us.

In this way, when we return to Canada, we can have DH go to the car and get the other 3 coats in.

We really don't have to go outside in Chicago? I know that we have to change the airplane at Terminal 3 in Chicago.

Hi,

In 2002 we did the 3 Land/4 Sea cruise and we left Boston in Feb with the temps in the 20's..... We dressed in layers; Polar Fleeces, sweaters, wind breakers etc... and had T-shirts on underneath... As soon as we got to the terminal the jackets were rolled up and put in the carryons....I had one bag that was just for jackets... If you need to go out in the cold again you can layer everything on again...

Besides, you may need some of these sweaters or windbreakers at night on deck, it can get a little cool...

Hi Little Twin Stars,
If you are being taken to the airport by family or friends and you are being picked up by the same then just leave your heavier winter gear in their car. That's what we did and then we didn't have to worry about what to do with coats, boots etc. On one trip we had two different sets of friends doing the drop-off, pick-up and the 'dropper-offers' took the winter coats to the 'picker-uppers' while we we away.
It also gave more people the chance to THINK about us:rolleyes: while we were on our warm winter holiday!! ( I sure hope it was nice things they THOUGHT!)

Thanks everyone for your great idea coz' I really don't want to bring the winter coats with me.

Can anyone assure me that we really do not have to go outside while getting on another airplane at Terminal 3, Chicago???

i am almost positive you dont have to go out side in chicago. It is just one BIG airport and all of the terminals are connected. Just ALOT of walking lol. Have fun!!

When we went through Chicago airport a few years ago we did not have to go out to get to the next terminal. There is a train that travels between the terminals. I also found that Chicago airport was exceptionally clean, well organized and had some of the nicest airport staff I have ever met.:D

We leave from VT and it's usually cold both when we leave and when we get back.. we usually take a cab to and from the airport and just wear layers.. tshirt and sweatshirt.. and run for the airport.. Never want to carry the coats around..

in the past we have also packed shorts in our carry on and changed into them before boarding the plane to FLA if time. Haven't done that in a while..but are always in short sleeves (with sweatshrits tied around our waists) when landing in FLA..

It's a short run to the airport if you are being dropped/off picked up - should be fine.

Skip the winter coats, wear short sleeves, sweatshirt and a windbreaker, once you get in the terminal, stuff with windbreakers in the fronts of the suitcases before you check them, then as you get closer to FL, just put the sweatshirts around your wastes, then once you get in Florida, you can stuff them in the fronts also! If your that cold, just keep a winter hat with you.

We take a limo to the airport so we will actually just run from the house to the limo without coats and then into the airport....no way do I want to be lugging around my winter coat and my daughters, I will put a sweatshirt on her and that will be good enough for the short time she will be outside.
