What state (or country, in case you aren't from the US) do you live in?

What do you like about it?
Dislike?

I thought this would be a fun discussion to have. :goodvibes

I live in north Georgia and I love just about everything about it. We have beautiful mountains and streams. Pinelands and beaches. Four seasons. Fall is beautiful, about 8 weeks long. About 2 weeks of real winter with a possibility of 2 inches of snow. Very temperate during the winter, but you can wear your sweaters. Spring in North Georgia is beautiful with trees and wildflowers.

Two things I don't like about Georgia: pollen season is severe if you're allergic(so many trees) and summer humidity. It's not as bad as Florida but it's bad enough to make me want to go to Washington in the summer.

I live in Tennessee.

Likes:
1. beautiful scenery
2. great BBQ
3. Bojangles

Dislikes:
1. large number of hypocritical evangelical Christians who are intolerant of other religions
2. people don't know how to drive
3. the humidity

I live in New Jersey across the river from Philadelphia. I like the easy access to the ocean, the Poconos and NYC. Museums, theater, healthcare and shopping are good here. I'm only 20 minutes from the airport!

I don't like the fact that being only 20 minutes from the airport means that I hear planes ascending or descending. I hate the traffic!

I live on Cape Cod and love the beaches and shoulder seasons (May/June, September/October), the school systems my children have attended, and the locals who have lived here forever. What I don't like is the cold winters, long drive to Logan Airport, and the traffic on rainy summer days...

I live in Bergen County, NJ.

Likes:
Beautiful spring, summer and fall
The plethora of malls and stores within 10 minutes of my home
bagels and Italian food
restaurants-there are probably hundreds within 10 miles of my home-love all the choices
everything is right here...even if I didn't have a car I could easily walk to the grocery store, kids' schools, drug store, restaurants, etc. etc.
I have New York City 15 minutes away, the beautiful Jersey shore an hour away and rural country an hour away.
The diversity and the acceptance that goes along with that-I really don't find too many judgmental people around here
The fact that even though we are a suburb of a huge city we have a small town feel and we are totally connected to our town.

Dislikes:
taxes and high price of homes...but that's to be expected-location location location
January, February and March

I am in Morris County NJ.. like being close to NY and PA. Not a fan of the Jersey Shore but like AC. Don't like the price of houses and the amount of illegal stacking is getting worst.

Another Jersey girl here! I live now in the northwest part. I love the diversity of NJ - there are rural mountain and farmland areas where I am now, yet easy access to NYC and the shore. I love the southern part of NJ where it is flat and the pace seems a little slower. I grew up in a more populated area of NJ and it was great. We had excellent schools and plenty of activities. I really could be totally happy in NJ except for high taxes, high cost of living, and a corrupt, wasteful government.

San Francisco Bay Area. The year-round beautiful weather is a big plus! (It is 60 degrees here today, 98 degrees at this same time one week ago!) We have a saying around here: if you don't like the weather - wait a minute - or travel 20 miles and you get a totally different micro-climate. And we have very low humidity.

The cost of living and the traffic (along with the number of people around here) can be a negative.

Charlotte, NC here. I love the weather, the size of the area, the low cost of living. There are MANY things to do, people of all religious beliefs and cultures. We're only a couple of hours from the mountains and a few hours from the beach. There are great schools, awesome sports teams, fantastic restaurants and shopping, beautiful scenery, big lakes for sailing and water activities. We're within a one day drive of WDW, a few hours from DC.

I honestly can't think of anything that I don't like about this area. I guess if I could do anything I'd just pick it up and move it a little closer to the beach!

I like this thread :)

I live in Western Massachusetts. We moved out here about 10 months ago from the city. I can say that I've never been happier!!

Pros:
-We have a driveway!! If I never have to street park again for the rest of my life, I think my life will be that much more complete.:rotfl:

-NO traffic!! In the city, I would sit on the highway for over an hour sometimes to get home. We have one road here that gets trafficky but I barely have to go on it. & even when I do, the surroundings are pretty (not trash & graffiti like where we used to live)

-Cost of living: WAY cheaper out here! We literally get more than twice of what we had in the city for less the price!

-People: People are much friendlier out here & in less of a rush.

-Entertainment: Yes, the city is FULL of entertainment, but I guess we are more country people. We live right at the bottom of a mountain, great places to hike & camp, 30 min from VT, little festivals all around.

Cons:
-I wish there was a commuter rail, for our friends to have easier access to visit us or if we do want to travel to the city for the day.
-I wish we lived near a Cheesecake Factory & a Disney Store! We had access to several before we moved.

I live on Cape Cod and love the beaches and shoulder seasons (May/June, September/October), the school systems my children have attended, and the locals who have lived here forever. What I don't like is the cold winters, long drive to Logan Airport, and the traffic on rainy summer days...

Where on the Cape are you? My parents live in Sandwich:)

I live in the Bronx, NY.

I like that I can be in midtown Manhattan in less than an hour on the train.
I like that I don't need a car to get around.
I like that there are a ton of things to do.

I don't like how big/crowded the city is.
I don't like how dirty the city is in many parts.
I don't like the housing situation here.

I'm moving in just over a month to the suburbs of New Orleans.
I like the food there and that it's less crowded. Seems more relaxed and laid back also. I can get better housing for less money. The school I'll be working at is a far better environment than the one I'm at now. What I don't like are the crime rates and the hurricane risk.

Jersey here (central). I like being near my family and friends. Weather (well some of the time). My home.

Dislikes, Outrageous property taxes, Gov. Corzine, general taxes, corrupt politicians, housing prices, wasteful spending, high cost of living.

I live in San Diego about 12 miles from the coast.

Pros:1) You can plan just about any event outside without having to worry about rain.

2)91 miles from DisneyLand.

3) Lots of stuff to do when company comes
4) My DH and DD live here!!:lmao:

Cons: I am a MidWesterner....I am not city person so

1). Major suburban sprawl. Traffic extreme at all times. Concrete everywhere.
2) Tourists, sure there is lots to do here, but full of tourists....so only go to the beach/zoo/etc when it isn't tourist season!!! Nothing against them individually...just increases the crowds!!!
3) Cost of living
4) dry desert landscape, I am from Ohio when summers/springs are GREEN!!!

And believe it or not, the unending sameness of one cloudless day after another actually gets boring...particularly if you are fair and freckled!!!

I'd move back to the midwest tomorrown!!!

I live in the NE section of Philadelphia. I love it here. I am a day trip away from the ocean and the mountains. I can hop on the train and I'm in Center City with the museums and history. I am 5 minutes fro I-95 and wherever I want to be. I am also 5 minutes from the suburbs so its the best of both worlds.

I live in Atlanta, Georgia. Not outside but just INSIDE Atlanta, Ga.

Likes:

I like raising my son here.
I like the peace and quiet.
The cost of living is very low compared to my hometown of NY.
The people are friendly (to your face which is all I care about ;) )

Dislikes:

I hate hate HATE the school system :furious:
The people are all from somewhere else so there are LOTS of different styles of driving.
The city is NOT visitor friendly and it's VERY difficult to navigate.
There is a strict class system that I did NOT grow up with so it's hard to get used to.... I've been a thorn in their sides for 20 years because of it! :lmao:
The salaries have not risen with the cost of living

Great thread! I feel like I've been to a therapist! :lmao:

I live in a small town called Hellertown, in the Lehigh Valley (Bethlehem, Allentown, Easton, PA).

H'town is a great lil town to live in, the schools are FANTASTIC!

I will post about the area, not my town

Pros
1. I am 2 hours from NYC and Philly...which is nice enough for a 1 day trip, but far enough away!

2. Small Town America Feel

3. It's fairly safe, there have been murders and other things happen, but overall I feel safe.

CONS

1. The Lehigh VAlley is one of the WORST places in the USA for allergies (true fact, they tall Drs who want to specialize in Allerguies to come here!

Today my eyes are so bad that I have itched them closed!

2. A Lot of colleges in the area (which could be a pro, was it not for the influx of inconsiderate kids that come every Aug!)

I live in North Texas:

Pros:
the cost of living is very low...
there are a lot of things to do in the surrounding areas

Cons:
the heat/humidty....it is horrible
the people..especially in Dallas are for the most part horrible. I hate the rich priveleged attitude that a lot of Dallas has.
There's not much to do in our town, so it is always a good drive to have to get somewhere else like dallas or fort worth to do anything.

I live in the Chicago suburbs, and on the whole I really enjoy it.

Upsides--

1.) Centrally located in US. Nearly everything is a reasonable plane flight away, and flights are plentiful and usually affordably priced.
2.) Four distinct seasons.
3.) All the amenities of a major metropolitan area (culture, business, infrastructure, excellent medical facilities, universities, etc.)
4.) A diversified economy that is holding up reasonably well.
5.) Beautiful architecture, both downtown and in many suburbs.
6.) Faily low risk of natural disaster--we don't really get hurricanes or major earthquakes or wildfires.
7.) Da Bears
8.) The area is quite affordable for what you get. A nice house in a good suburb with decent schools can still be had for around 250k. You get all the pluses of big-city living without the sky-high costs you find on the coasts.
9.) A wonderful Chicagoland spirit. We're practical, unaffected, and pretty friendly, but still sophisticated enough to hold our own with anyone.

Downsides--

1.) Traffic! It's really congested here. Rush hour can turn a 30 minute drive into at least 2 hours.
2.) The summers are hot, the winters are cold. The two weeks between each is lovely, though.
3.) Colorful local and state government. You may have heard of our former governer?
4.) The neighbors are pretty sleepy. Nothing against Wisconsin, Indiana, or Iowa--I like them all and have had plenty of fun there. But it's not like living in NYC where you could drive to a million fascinating places or LA where you could drive to Vegas or catch a cruise in Long Beach. You either have to fly or road trip to get to many tourist destinations.
