Where do you go for travel insurance?

So while I was getting a quote at Thomas Cook today, the woman said it's roughly £150 ish for travel insurance, which I personally think it's horrendous amount.
I know I could get it way cheaper elsewhere, but where? Where do you guys go for travel insurance, and what sort of cover should I be looking for?

Never get your insurance through the travel agent, they're RIDICULOUSLY expensive! I always use the comparison websites and get the best quote.

I recently purchased an annual family worldwide insurance, with the top level of cover for £125. I could have got standard cover for £87 for the year, but because we are planning to move to the US, I wanted the highest level of cover. Last year Thomas Cook wanted £55 each for a single trip and it wasn't even a good level of cover.

We still need insurance. Is there a thread on here helping first timers get the right cover and do people have a minimum limit for health cover?

It's a bit harder with recommendations for us, with us living in France. I don't have a clue how to go about it to make sure we get the right cover. We paid by bank transfer and it was only after that the bank told us we'd have been covered if we'd have got and used their credit card. Too late now though, so I need to start searching at the weekend.

I have always found that using the price comparison websites for insurances brings the best result. When I purchased my annual policy, it bought up 3 different levels of cover with the 3 prices. Personally, I went for the highest level of cover because in our circumstances that will be best for us, but each option detailed what was covered and up to how much was covered so you can choose what is right for you.

I hope your quote wasnt too high for your holiday :goodvibes

For insurance we just search loads of places-theres lots of price compare websites. :thumbsup2

Over the years I have bought from many insurance companies. Always used to buy the cheapest I could find.
Tried to claim twice, once with Asda and once with Insure & Go. both times refused to pay out.
After the Ash cloud I have paid a bit more to go with marks & Spencer but their premium was crazy a couple of years back so now with Post Office.

Ours is due for renewal in a few weeks so will start getting quotes soon.

You have no idea how good your policy is until you try claim.

I have used axa for the last few years, a recent claim was handled OK. They cover ash cloud and the excess is only £25. Think I paid about 60£ for a year.

It seems a lot of other companys policy's are underwritten by axa.

I went with Debenhams for this year. Wasn't the cheapest, but has good cover (we needed a fair bit due to how much we have spent on the trip this time), and I wanted to go with somebody with a good track record. Also got money back from Quidco.

I did quite a lot of research and in the end went with HolidaySafe, they are one of the companies recommended by Which and Money Saving Expert. :)

We went with our banks travel insurance last time (Barclays) It was discounted if you book online, so saved a bit. We got their premium on wich cost about £80 for the two of us.

Sorry just looking at insurance, what level of cover would I need, I don't want to go for some silly little amount, I want good proper cover

Just make sure you get one that covers the US. you can get worldwide ones excluding the US.
As youre going to the US, the cover is usually high.

you wont be able to do it so far in advance but you can get ideas of prices now. search a few and see what the differences there are. I found as it was for the US, they usually covered everything well.
Does your bank offer it free with your account, cant remember if thats been asked already.

if you ar enot booking a package you need one that coveres consequential losses and airline failure aswell , i also went with a post office one was £137 for an annual policy with £10 cashback that was for our family of 5

i was also advised to take the policy out when booking and not just before departure
