Where do you carry your camera?

Maybe a dumb question.. maybe I can't remember the last time I took a camera to an amusement park (we go locally so no need to take pics). But do you put it in your backpack and take the backpack off every time? Mine won't fit in my pocket. I was thinking I could carry a messenger bag , but the ones I find are either too big (like to carry school books or laptop!) or too small (I found one I thought was good but after putting water, sunscreen, and camera it was full, and only one compartment). I guess I would prefer something on my side, but I don't want to spend a lot (only $10-$15) . Tried walmart (that's where I found the too small bag, and Target (found absolutely nothing I liked). I've also gone to bag section in the mall. Nothing seems pefect... it seems like things either don't have enough compartments or are too big.

Should I just carry a backpack and take my bag off each time?

Mine has a long adjustable cord strap. Sometimes I wear it around my neck and other times I adjust the cord and tie it to my wrist. You might be able to buy an adjustable cord cheaper than a messenger bag and it keeps you from having to constantly get it in and out.

I use a waist pack (also known as fanny pack!) to hold the camera, tickets, money, chapstick, tylenol and a few other small things. We usually have a stroller for the other stuff but when the little one stays back with grandma and grandpa we hook the water bottles onto the strap for the waist pack. I did have to buy a holder for the water bottles that had a hook thing but it wasn't hard to find (Walmart). Also at Walmart I found small size sunscreen bottles with a caribener (sp?) hook on them. Also easiely attachable to the pack strap. I really like the waist pack for the camera because it is so handy and easily accesable. I do have a small camera but there is also room for other stuff as I mentioned. The one I have has a small seperate front and back pocket as well as the big middle section where the camera goes. Works well for me.

It would depend on the size of your camera.

This year I purchased a Camera Bag at Best Buy which was just the right size for my camera. The Camera Bag I bought had one compartment for the camera, which zipped open. I have an older digital camera which is smaller then a SLR but not as small as the digital cameras they sell now. It was easy to pull the camera out when I needed it, and slide it back in when I was done. The Camera Bag is also padded, so I was less worried about banging it on something I walked past.

The part that I liked was that the Camera Bag had a loop, secured by velcro. I could slide the loop under my belt, and it would stay securely fastened to my side.

The Camera Bag was about 19 dollars.

There are lots of small camera bags available at places like Best Buy and Rits Camera, for many different size cameras. Some have shoulder straps, others have belt loops, some have both. Shop around and see if you can find one you like.

I always carry my camera on a strap around my neck and shoulders, which keeps it at the ready in case I need to take a quick shot.

ebags may have what you are looking for. I use a fanny pack similar to the one posted already.

my camera case has a little metal buckle I attatch to my belt loop/or it has the velcroe option of hooking to my belt

I have a fairly small digital camera that I carry in the lower side pocket of my cargo pants. That works well for me.

Since my camera is fairly big, I have a separate carrying case for it. I just pull it out when needed and if I will be taking a few picutures, I will hang it on my neck.

I found a black Mickey camera bag a few trips back in one of the parks...very cute and it attaches to my, you guessed it, WDW fanny pack!!

mine fits perfectly in my waist pack

video camera goes in the back pack as we dont use it as often

Then I'd have to carry a camera bag and a backpack or something.. I guess DH can carry the backpack :)

Yeah if I wore cargo pants the camera could fit..it's small not a pro camera or anything - like a Kodak digital camera.

I have a Lowepro camera bag that has both a carrying strap and on the back of it, a thick velcro attachment which is perfect for attaching to my belt so I always have our camera with us :flower: It works a peach!

I've always used a 6 pack size soft sided cooler. It has zipper pockets for accessories, extra batteries, etc. I don't worry about anything getting wet, even on the water rides. If water can't leak out, water can't leak in.

I have a SLR digital camera, and I use a Lowepro backpack/camera bag (camera compartments on the bottom, standard backpack on top) that is amazingly comfortable and handy for a day at the parks. I love it because we only need one bag - I can fit all the necessary park gear in the top part, and then put my camera & supplies in the lower padded section. My DH wears it so I have fast access to the camera compartment, although I just wear the camera around my neck if I'm in a major picture zone. I also waterproofed the bag with ScotchGuard, and I've never had any problems on the water rides.

OOO...do you have pictures of the camera bag & fanny pack?

DH and I take turns carrying a very small backpack but I wear a Baggallini "wallet bag" that can be worn across the body, on a belt, or as a waste pack so that I will always have my ID, room key, and some cash with me in case we separate for some reason. The Baggallini comes in two sizes but both are light weight and have room for my digital camera and cell phone. ebags.com has them but sometimes you can get them on ebay.

I have a case for my digital camera that was made for it. It can hook onto a belt and has space for a spare battery and memory card. Everything fits like a glove. That was for a Canon S100 and the case was from Canon. I just upgraded to a Canon S1 (wanted the 10X zoom and some other features). With this camera I am going witha case from Tamrac for $20.

If you go to Tamracs web site, www.tamrac.com they have a guide for various cameras and what case to get.

One thing to keep in mind is that these cases are designed for camera stuff only. They hold the camera, spare batteries and memory but not much else. The nice think is that the case for our S100 is sleek enough that it will fit in a fanny back with the camera inside. It provides some extra protection than just having the camera bouncing around in fanny pack or backpack by itself.

Good luck.

The past two trips I have used a black backpack purse, but for my next trip I just purchased a mini puma backpack at the Puma Outlet store. I can easily fit my camera, wallet, bottle of water, a pouch with pins, some advil, and kleenex.
