Where do you buy your son's suit for First Holy Communion?

We bought ours from Penneys. I have three boys and three nephews. Someone would use it again. We have also had luck at the resale shop.

My son had his First Communion last May and we purchased his suit at Burlington Coat Factory - I don't know if you have one of those near you or not. Ours isn't the easiest to shop in, but it was well worth the look. I think I spent like $30 or $40 on it and they even sell the shirt/tie combo.

Us too.

My son made his 2 years ago and out of 50-60 boys old a few had suits. Most of them wore a white shirt / tie with pants.

I bought ours on ebay. It really was nice! It was black with jacket, pants, vest and shirt for $35. I had such a hard time finding one locally in black. It was perfect and not a budget buster for one day. He was one of the few with a suit most had black pants and white shirt, but I liked him looking special for his special day. We actually have worn it a couple of times since for weddings and recitals.

I bought DS9s from Kohl's online. They almost always have discount codes.

I'm glad you brought this up. I'm going to email some of the 2nd grade Moms and see if they would like his suit. It will not fit DS5 because he is a much bigger guy.

DS made hie last May. Got a really nice Dockers suit from Sears. Was able to use a $10 Sears coupon form the Kid Stuff book!:cool1: Then got a shirt at Target and a tie from Kohl's.
Our church made had no dress code constraints. They felt with the economy they shouldn't tell people what to put their kids in. I had wanted to do khakis & a jacket for DS but DH insisted on a suit. Most of the boys were in suits though.

I bought my son's suit at Kohl's. Actually, I got his suit, shirt, tie, sock and shoes all at Kohls. I would say everything cost me about $60 (but I think I had a coupon). I think he was the most handsome boy there.:cutie:

Thanks everyone for your replies. Looks like I will have lots of options of places to look.

If you can wait a few weeks, right before Easter Sears and Pennys will have the suits go on sale. That's what I am waiting for as my son needs one this year too.

We're in FL.

Boys here are not allowed to wear white or to wear suits.

Dress code is:
Navy slacks
White long sleeve dress shirt
Tie of your choice
Belt
Dress socks/shoes

Made it pretty easy!

Girls are not allowed to wear veils or carry anything (ie: rosary, bible, etc) but do of course wear white dresses.

I wonder if white is a regional thing. My son wore white and I would say it was split 50/50 the year he made Communion. My DS6 makes his next year and is also wearing white.

I live north of Boston and our son's wear white suits. I had to buy mine at a boutique, a 7 slim, Perry Ellis, when all was said and done - $150 - that included the white shoes too. But he looked sharp, and the suit fit like a glove. It was nothing compared to the $500 dresses the little girls were wearing!!! Oh and we can't forge the $100 veils!!!!

I bought a white suit on ebay. Sold it the year after since he only wore it once.

I bought my oldest son a navy blue blazer from Land's End. I paired it with tailored khaki pants, a white shirt and navy blue striped tie. He looked so handsome. When my other two boys make their's next year I will buy another from Land's End.

I think the problem at JCPenney's may have been that you asked for a boy's "First Communion Suit" - and that may have thrown the sales staff. It really is just a boy's suit, unless you want a white suit.

I think if you shop just before Easter at any number of department and children's stores you will have better luck...and best of all, you might find a suit on clearance just after Easter.

If you want a white suit, (less common, but not unheard of) check with a tuxedo shop or bridal shop for rental or purchase. You might even consider renting a suit, white or dark, if the price is right.

Maddle

I asked if they had any boys white suits for first communion and said that I noticed the girls dresses. I just recently found out that not everyone wears white suits for first communion. I have never been to a first communion that they do not all wear white.

Of course my aunt forgot to bring it down for me and there is no way that my son would fit in my nephews from last year.
