My wife is leaving tomorrow to the UK for a month, moving between Cheltenham and Suffolk. We just found out her daughter is expecting again so she wanted to check out yard sales for baby items. We looked on the UK version of Craigslist and sales were sparse to say the least. Instead of having sections for each town the entire East Anglia was covered in one section :confused3 Here, for example is what's coming up this weekend just in the town we live in:

Quite a difference. However what isn't different is that people still need to declutter and get rid of unneeded items without having to give it away to some thrift shop. Where is the best place to look for yard sales, car boot sales and the like?

We don't really have yard sales over here but car boot sales are usually advertised in your local free newspaper.

I was talking about the lack of yard sales with the missus and we came to the conclusion that the price of petrol was what made yard sales such a rarity, traveling from house to house just isn't as cost effective. It's a shame. We visited over 300 homes last weekend and she will be in the UK when yard sale season really hits its peak. Her cases will be packed with things we picked up for the Grandkids. Last year we bought so much her daughter told us to stop sending it.

This time we concentrated on costumes. These are some of the ones we found just since March. The most expensive one cost a whopping 1.29 GBP, most cost half that. Click on a picture to enlarge it.

I have bought and sold baby items on eBay. I have also had some great freebies from freecycle.:thumbsup2

Our village has an annual Yard Sale on the second Saturday in July. Houses taking part are put on a map which is available from the local Church along with refreshments on the day.

Car boot sales are the best place i think to find bargains. I did one last weekend it was indoors at a local comunity hall table cost £12.00 and we made over £60 profit, although I didnt have any baby items there were a few tables filled with stuff ad a great many bargains to be had. Might be worth looking in the local newspapers and village shops etc to see if any advertised. Where we stay there is an outdoor one every sunday at Ayr racecourse starting in May, so check out places like that too.

Well she finally made it over after all of the volcano fiasco, arrived at Heathrow this morning and is safely in Ipswich. She already found a car boot sale for the weekend, hope it's full of bargains :)
