We will have 2,6,8 year olds with us and would like to do the Palo dinner one night.

Also, what if you and your significant other want to do a shore excursion one day and the kids are too young?

The older two can go to their respective kids clubs. You can make a reservation for the youngest in Floundres Nursery.

Some people leave their young children in the clubs or in the Flounders Nursery while they go ashore. In April we left our kids for the first time for about an hour on the ship == and they were 18 and 13. I honestly don't think that I would feel comforable doing that with young children. ALOT of people do it though.
:D

I would feel perfectly comfortable leaving my child on ship while I was on shore. It is no different to me than leaving her with a sitter at home or at pre-school/day care. I am of the belief that something can happen to our children anytime, anywhere, as sad as that is and I cannot (unfortunately) protect her from everything, so we just gotta live! :D

You will do what makes you feel most comfortable, and maybe you won't decide that until you get there and see the facilities for yourself. Since you can't make any kind of reservations until you're on the ship, don't sweat it.

I would actually feel safer leaving them on the ship then with a babysitter. It's a much more controlled environment and security is tight.

Excellent point! I had not thought about the security aspect.

DS10 will either be left in the lab or in our room if/when we go to Palos.

When my kids were younger and I left them with a sitter I was always reachable at a phone number or specific location. If a young child is left on board while the parents go to the islands -- and are not at a specific reachable location -- that is when I would begin to worry. Anything could happen to the child and the parents may not be able to be reached for hours. It's not that I do not trust DCL with my kids --- its the 'reachable' factor that would worry me.

Whenever I would leave my kids (when they were younger) for a long length of time and I was NOT reachable - I would leave a letter allowing the person that had them (usually grandparents) to be able to 'okay' any necessary medical treatment for my child in the event of an emergency while I was gone. I wonder if DCL keeps such signed consent on board in the case of an emergency (broken bone, etc)?

I guess that I am not as much of a worrier by nature...There are many places we have gone without DD even close to home that made me "unreachable" for a period of time. We have gone on boat trips, etc... that made us incommunicado for a few hours. And there are lots of places now where I shut off the ever-attached-to-hip cell phone, like theaters & nice restaurants. Not only that, but often when I travel for work my cell is turned off while I am in the air, etc... so I am not reachable to my child's school for awhile.

As for the permission thing, the only time I have ever done that is when we go away for days at a time. I would imagine that DCL requires an emergency consent form just like a day care or school would. It is my understanding that there is a Dr. & nurse on board in case of a real emergency. And if you are not going on a DCL excursion so they know where you are, I would imagine that you can leave your location with the club so that they can try to reach you asap.
