Where do animals go at night at AKL?

The ones on the Savannah just sleep there or at least most of them do. Outside my window this year we saw Ankole cattle and gazelles just sleeping under the trees.

Some have pins but mostly they go wherever they want and sleep. For those that sleep. Giraffes don't sleep much, just 5 or 10 min at a time (or something like that)

As others have said they sleep outside just like would out in nature.
They do have indoor enclosures where they bring them in when a hurricane is coming.
We we there in September when Dorian was supposed to hit and I talked to a few different cast members about how they keep the animals safe.

They have pens and indoor enclosures. If you are staying on a higher floor with savannah view you can see them pretty clearly. We recently had a view which basically looked out to where a lot of them were, and it seems some have the option of going back in if they want.

I believe they mostly just stay on the Savannah.

From what I remember when I stayed there, the animals are out at night but then each species goes inside at a certain time during the late morning when most guests are at the parks. The animals get their daily wellness checks and fed to encourage them to come inside and often they will wait outside their enclosure entrance (in the back, away from guest rooms) in anticipation of being let inside...similar to how the giraffes on the safari wait by their gate at times (or at least it was explained to me this way).

I stayed up late at night watching the animals outside from my balcony and not only were they active, they were quite entertaining!

They either sleep outside, or they sleep inside in a pen. All the animals are trained to come in with a specific sound. This also gets them to their pen so they cen be checked medically.

A few years ago I stayed at AKL for one of the RunDisney races. The buses come EARLY for the races (like 3:30 am!) so I was up having a cup of coffee on the balcony around 2:30, and there was a giraffe right outside. I remember being surprised because I had thought they went somewhere else overnight.
It was a room FAR down on the Kudu trail that was actually considered "standard view" (but we always saw animals!), I think 3378 or very close to it.

We had a group of 5or 6 zebras sleeping below our room at Kidani a few years ago. All but one were lying on the ground and sleeping with one standing. I guest he/she was the sentry.

This. It's annoying if you are hanging out in your room in the morning hoping to see the animals and the savanna is empty! You can tell when they let them back out - they head to their favorite places.

We noticed that most stay on the savanna, but have favorite places to sleep. Near bushes, along fences... I think basically anywhere they feel safe. They would start congregating along the fences where the gates are(where the food trucks come and go) around sunrise though. The savannahs seemed empty at those times, but they were just waiting for breakfast.

The animals go in one savanna at a time. You can ask a castmember there to find out when the animals will be gone from the savanna that your room sees.
