Where do all the socks go?

I bought my 9 year old DD a six pack on socks in August for school. A few months later they were gone, don't know where, just gone. So I bought her a three pack about a month ago. I just did all the laundry and there are three socks. She swears she knows nothing. I have looked under the bed, in the back of the closet etc. I'm not buying any more this school year. She'll have to figure something out. Thankfully she only wears them twice a week for PE days, but sheesh!!

Socks fly up & over the basket in the washer. If you turn your washer upside down you might find them.

I have 5 children, and they're always running out of socks, no matter how many I buy. One day, dd11 decided to help her younger brothers and sister make sock puppets. I asked her what socks she planned on using, and she brought down a bag of all different sized socks from her room, saying they didn't have any matches. Of course they didn't - I had thrown them away after sorting through the other kids' drawers! If someone elses clean laundry ends up in her room, she never thinks to bring it back down!

My sister's theory was the missing socks get sucked up into the dishwasher & get turned into extra dishes, because doesn't it seem that there are more dishes in there after it's run than before?

Wait until they come home from college on break...they will bring 20 SINGLE socks...not one single sock of the 20 will have a mate Or as my DS said as he was pulling out all his laundry...."hmm, not mine, not mine, not mine".... "Well, DS, where exactly are YOUR clothes?"

Don't ask me! I have a basket full of socks that have lost their partners. I've started wearing socks that are the same color and style, just a different pattern b/c I can't find the match! Oh well!

Thats why I try to buy several pair of the same sock for each person in the family. We're still down to 1 1/2 pair out of 12. I've run out of places to look and I refuse to buy her any more until the next school year. We seem to be low on washcloths lately too.

If you find out where all the missing socks go, please let me know. I just had to buy all 3 girls new socks this past weekend. And that was after they got new ones for Christmas which was after they got new ones for vacation at the end of August. From now on, all I'm buying is plain white socks so maybe they will last longer than a few months.
