Match.com. Yes, we met online. Shhhh, we don't tell everybody that!!! It's kind of embarassing, but with all the traveling I do for work, there wasn't much time for socializing - so I placed an ad, and he found me.
We met in person in a park on a sunny Saturday afternoon. We planned to meet near the stage in the park downtown. I sat on the bleachers waiting for him, and he snuck up behind me and gave me a kiss before I even laid eyes on his face!
Then he handed me a bouquet of flowers, and we sat on a blanket in the park getting to know each other. At first, I didn't feel very attracted, to be honest. He wasn't my "typical" guy. He was a blonde surfer, for one thing. And my experience with blonde men (I know, stereotyping) had never been good.
But we walked the downtown shops, and as we were sitting outside Starbuck's having iced coffee and chatting, I felt something wet and sticky hit my shoulder and my hair. Knowing there were lots of kids nearby, I assumed it was a squirtgun.
Hubby kept on talking, I kept on listening. During a break in the conversation, I glanced over at my shoulder and saw that it was a pigeon that had left it's mark on me, not a child's squirtgun. I calmly asked my "date" to go inside and get me some napkins. He didn't know why (yet), but obliged. When he came out, he saw my shoulder and hair, and said, "OH NO!!!" And started wiping it all off.
That's when I knew he was a keeper.
Our first anniversary is in two months, and we're blissfully happy!!!
