Drove home Mothers Day from week long vacation at POFQ and WL. I had originally booked the Dream Maker package through AAA for 5 nights, and then I discovered the DIS. So on the nights at the beginning and end of our trip that we were planning to stay off site, I used the room only codes to book POFQ for Sunday and WL Woods View for the following Saturday. I never told DW that we weren't staying off site. We drove down 95 early Sunday 5/2/04, we stopped at Exit 6 in Georgia to get the last tank of cheap gas before Fla, and then made mandatory stop at Fla Welcome Center for juice. Somewhere around J'ville we stopped at Sonny's and had lunch then charged on. When we neared our original off-site hotel, I asked DW if she would like to drive through and check out where we'd be spending the week. She agreed and my surprise was spoiled when the lady at the POFQ gate asked if we were checking in. I said yes and was ready to drive on when the lady asked for our name to check off against her list. That's when the DW caught on. She was surprised and very pleased and grateful.
Let's back up here a sec.
I took my DW and our two DSs 5 yo - Knucklehead and 8 mo - Bo Bo.
I rented a brand new Suburban from our local Enterprise at a great company discount because I felt all the baby accessories we were taking down wouldn't fit in our mini-van. I was right, it almost didn't fit in the Suburban.
So booking the room a day early was great for my DW because she was dreading unpacking and repacking things to bring from off-site into the resort the following day and worried about formula, etc. in baggage storage while we're in the parks the next day.
Unfortunately, we were not the only ones checking in at 2:30 on that Sunday afternoon. Who'd a thought? I have never had to stand in line at a Disney resort for that long, ever. But then we've never checked in that late before. We usually check in first thing in the morning and then hit the parks. Knucklehead made some friends in the rocking chairs by the TV in the lobby and Bo Bo needed tending to. So I was left alone with a room full of strangers shuffling along towards the Front Desk Clerks. Finally, my turn, "Don't forget to ask if upgrade is available, don't forget to ask if upgrade is available" a voice kept saying in my head. CM says something, hands me some stuff, I hand him my credit card, I get some key cards, and I'm off.
DW walks up with baby and asks, "Did you get an upgrade?'
"Uh...they didn't have anything available" (especially for people that don't ask), I mumble.
We had a Standard View in building 3, Rm 3302. Wonderful room, wonderful location. No parking lot visible. Of all the refurbishments done in the room, none was better than the beds. Very comfortable, I never once heard the baby in the middle of the night.
Anyway, we get unpacked, throw on our bathing suits and head for the pool we have read so much about. Knucklehead had a ball riding the slide and playing with the alligator that shoots water out of its clarinet. Bo Bo was doing well in his little floaty innertube type thingy that also wrapped around DW or me. We find out fast that Bo Bo does not like being splashed. I think we only tried to get him back in the pool once more. Had he felt better, he might have liked it.
Did I mention Bo Bo was not feeling well? He didn't complain much.
I feel like I'm rambling, and there is so much I want to write while I still remember it. Should I go on? Or am I boring y'all?
